Hard Candy
May 8, 2008 Fresh! After listening to some tracks, all I can say is that Madonna's Hard Candy album is Fresh! The collaborative work for the different tracks in this album is, for me, evidently creative. The first time I listened to Madonna and Justin Timberlake's 4 Minutes, it took me less than 4 minutes to decide to buy this Hard Candy album. I am happy. Did you find this review helpful? Star Trek: First Contact (2-Disc Special Collector's Edition) (US Version) DVD Region 1
(1)Our Price: US$12.98April 16, 2008 Best TNG Movie, Best EditionThis Star Trek (the next generation) movie is one that shouldn't be missed. The first contact -- it's so memorable and historical. And this DVD edition is just awesome.
I stopped watching Star Trek for quite some time now, and I thought I'd try this $12.98 special collector's edition DVD. This is so worth it. The DVD quality and the special features are awesome. It includes the Borg Collective and the Borg Universe which lets us take a peek into the Borg's world. The special features also include a tribute to the music of Jerry Goldsmith which is outstanding. $12.98 is a very small price to pay for the joys this edition has brought to me :-)

The Essential Yo - Yo Ma

J9 New + Party Collection
February 21, 2008 Real good "thumpa-thumpa"If you like Jolin's songs and you like remixes, dances, and club beats, you should definitely not miss Jolin's "J9 New + Party Collection" album. The remixes are done good, if not ultimately excellent. Jolin's excellent singing voice blends well with the remix versions of the songs. You'll be surprised that how at some tracks you'll hear Jolin's voice so clearly (clearer than the original song versions). If you like the song "Simply Love" (Track 8), the remix version here in this album will make you love it more -- the opening bass beats are amazingly very pop and common yet it really embodies the beat of the song. October 30, 2007 Better melodies in this one
This review is about Joey's "Ten Most Wanted" album, and not about EEG's version release schedule (so I think the review made by Viv Wong is irrelevant -- is she reviewing the CD or EEG itself?).
What strike me most about the tracks in this album is that the melodies are really good and they sounded a bit more original that those common jumpy (or sometimes sappy) cantonese songs. For the jumpy ones, I consider Track #1 to be quite good . For the sappy ones, I'm addicted to Track #5. Track #3 is awesome for me too.
I have greatly enjoyed listening (and I am still listening, occassionally) to Joey's Ten Most Wanted album.

The storyline is funny and witty too, and the actors were excellent (not just because they are Andy Lau and Rene Liu).Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -
Best of Sessions at West 54th - Vol. 1 (US Version)
December 2, 2006 Excellent PerformancesThis is one of the best bargains for a music performance compilation DVD. Imagine -- Yo Yo Ma, Ben Folds, Suzanne Vega, Aimee Mann, and a whole lot more. Yo Yo Ma is exceptionally charming and cute of course, in performing the undying "Libertango" (although of course, this is a personal opinion). Anyway you might think the album is not long enough because it is not a continuous, one-night concert-type jamming session, but rather it is composed of selected track performances from various episodes, which feels a little bit strange for viewing continuity. The DVD music quality is good, although I was expecting a little more bass. Nevertheless I'd still highly recommend this album. Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -

November 27, 2006 Surprisingly (Disc 1 and 2)Honestly, I only wanted to watch this TV series because Shu Qi is in it. I was initially worried that I wouldn't be able to finish all 6 discs this year. But to my surprise it kept me glued for 9 hours last weekend (and this is just for Disc 1 and 2)!
Episode 1 opens with a Charlie's Angels-like scene wherein 5 beautiful Chinese stars, disguised as dancers (but trained as killers), attacked an opponent of Councilor Yang Su's palace. The scene opens up with a lot of Kung Fu and fancy girl kicks that made me yawn (and expected to be disappointed)! However after this, the real story began unfolding. And it is exciting!
The plot is chocolate-cake thick (and I only finished 10 episodes, a lot more to go), but the introduction of new characters has been phased very well that you are not inundated with many characters at once. This TV series is a mix of Bible-like stories (The Prodigal Son, Cain and Abel, etc.), Chinese costume dramas, Alchemy, Swordsplay, Kung-Fu, and a lot of good sceneries in China that makes you feel you get your money's worth because of the production. Shu Qi plays as the prettiest, best-trained, and most sympathetic assassin, who also happens to be the object of almost every man in the TV series (as expected, which was disappointing as she's always typecast to this role), but is also the most clever.
The TV series is a healthy mix of history, action, betrayal, and love story. As for the English subtitles, with the exception of a few forgivable spelling (well, except for the "trailer" spelling error on the main menu of the DVD) and some grammatical errors, it has been a breeze watching this series with English subtitles -- the discs are better than expected.
I'll watch the rest of the discs and give my final verdict afterwards.Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -

The actors are outstanding. Al Pacino is splendid. The issue of AIDS has been presented very well -- not sensationalized, just the truth. Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -
Who's The Woman, Who's The Man
May 16, 2006 Good enough for me babyMy friends say the first one is better, but I must say that this one is good enough. First of all it casts 3 stars I like - Leslie, Jordan Chan, Anita Mui. Secondly, the plot is very interesting -- Leslie moves in with his childish girlfriend, can't get used to living with someone, turned his girlfriend into a boy star (no one knows she's a boy), girlfriend met famous star Anita who's bored to death with her life and fell in love ... I wouldn't want to spoil the ending but definitely you should watch it. Anita is enigmatic. Leslie's acting is outstanding. I envy Anita Yuen's character -- she's not that pretty nor sexy but she gets the best of both worlds ;)

Perhaps Love (Hong Kong Version)
May 12, 2006 Hong Kong-ized PhasingThe story, the plot, should have been excellent. The effects and the colors were excellent. However, everything has been in vain, especially the musical scenes, just because they have cut everything too short. Too short to appreciate an instance, too short to appreciate the transitions between the scene. This is what I call "Hong Kong-ized Phasing"... I feel that they have compromised longevity of essential scenes because the filmmaker is worried that Hong Kong people will find it "boring". The typical Hong Kong audience is not yet ready for long-lasting, reflective, and contemplative longer scenes.
Plus, Takeshi Kaneshiro's acting is quite strange. Very strange.Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -
Isabella Original Movie Soundrack (OST)

May 12, 2006 By far... the best soundtrack experienceI have watched the movie Isabella and I rate the movie 8 out of 10. And then I listened to the soundtrack and I would rate it 9 out of 10. The listening experience takes you back to watching the movie, with deeper emotions. I am no music expert but the track selections are excellent -- I think they are Portuguese-inspired. I don't know any of the composers but friends say the composers are the best ones. Voice tracks are selected to a minimum. My best friend and I listened to this soundtrack straight for 4 days. Be warned though -- the tracks can make you cry... but in the end, a funny cantonese classic-- Anita Mui's, will take you back to reality. I love this CD.

Queer As Folk - The Complete Season One And Two
March 7, 2006 I love this seriesI've only recently watched this series even if it was done ages ago. All I can say is that I love the series. I love the series because the characterization is good. I love the series because it is honest. I love the series because it revolves around the concept of unrequited love and owning someone (as in being in a relationship) which don't just apply to homosexual relationships but to heterosexual relationships as well. I love the guys because they have their own style and they are fabulous in each of their own way. Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -

December 5, 2005 My first Hong Kong concertThe Reflections of Joey's Live 2005 concert is my first-ever canto-pop concert experience here in Hong Kong. Even if I don't speak cantonese (and I only know 2 of her songs), the concert, I must say, passes international standards. The production is great, Joey's live singing voice is better than expected, and the repertoire is good. The choreographed dances are excellent. Even if Joey does not dance as well as Janet Jackson, it doesn't matter. You should get this CD. I will get this CD as it has been a very pleasant concert experience for me (and I got to shake Joey's hand!). Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -
Bi-Heart (Version 2)

November 30, 2005 BravoI bought this CD because my friend gave me free front-row concert tickets to her recent Reflections of Joey Live 2005 concert. I do not speak a word of cantonese (ok, maybe 45 words) but I think that the album production and originality can be given an "above average" credit. While this album reminds me of Janet Jackson's Velvet Rope, it's own twist and an honest reflection of Joey's self and personality (in my own opinion) made this my first favorite Cantopop album. The packaging of the version 2 is quite cute but strange that it has some piece of lace on it (which I tell me friends is a part of Joey's outfit). The melody of the tracks and Joey's sweet voice (which fitted naturally, far from my expectations that her voice will not be flexible enough for different types of music) and the above average production and composition of the songs make this album great. Make sure you buy this one. Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -
Day & Night (2CD Special Edition)
November 28, 2005 Chocolate Ice VoiceIf I were to rate the album based on voice quality, I would give this a perfect rating. However, I have to judge the album by its contents. It was indeed quite disappointing that the girl did covers of Leon's songs. It would be ok if it was around 3 maximum but a hell lot spells a terrible difference. I guess Leon's company is very wise enough to earn from Leon's investment as Leon will get royalty fees and all that from the sales of this album. I hope Janice creates a more original album now that she has "broken through" the Hong Kong pop world. Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -
Three Times (DVD) (China Version)
November 28, 2005 Two Times EnigmaI would rate the movie as enigmatic. Enigmatic in such a way that it engages you into the film in a very soft and subtle way. And it is very good. From the middle until the end of the film, you are engaged with the story, feelings, and the lives of the characters.
The title of my review is "Two Times Enigmatic" instead of "Three Times" because I only found the 2nd (China, 1911) and 3rd (Taipei, Taiwan, 2005) parts effectively enigmatic. Although I think that the first episode (Kaoshiung, Taiwan, 1966) has successfully set the enigmatic mood for the whole film.
Overall it is a very good movie and I personally like it.Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -
November 9, 2005 Great Album and please be patient guys
My friend says this is a great album and she loves it so much. Anyway, for those who are complaining about the list of winners, I have been a fan of YesAsia.com for a long time now and I know that they will post the winners but usually takes a few weeks, just like the winners of the Initial D draw. Please don't worry guys and be patient. Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -

I watched the movie and find it funny. The girl is so pretty and the I pity the poor boyfriend so much for being slapped a lot. Nevertheless it is a very entertaining film. Not for the serious film watchers. People who love to drink might also scorn the drinking capabilities of the girl. PS. Just for the record, I am not like Sassy Girl.

October 27, 2005 What's new?I've watched the DVD Mei Ah version with english subtitles. First of all, they shouldn't have placed Shu Qi's face in the cover as her role in this movie is so little.
The movie is just about how 2 guys try to chat and meet girls from internet chatrooms. One is a hopeless romantic and one just wants to find girls to sleep with. There is really nothing exciting with this movie.
This movie is meant to be watched only during the year it was produced.
P.S. YesAsia- please, Shu Qi's name is Shu Qi, not Shu Kei Shu. Please kindly correct her display name on your website. HMV displays her name correctly.
