NEWS member Kato Shigeaki stars in the drama special Sugata Sanshiro aired on TV Tokyo in December 2007. The judo youth drama is the latest in a long line of adaptations of Tomita Tsuneo's renowned novel, which was first and most notably adapted in 1943 by Kurosawa Akira for his directorial debut. Kato plays titular hot-blooded youth Sanshiro who studies judo at the Kodokan-Yano school under Master Yano. For Sanshiro, judo is not just a martial art but a way of life. Tapped to represent his school in a competition, Sanshiro is determined to maintain the name and honor of his master, until he discovers that the life of his competitor's daughter is laid on the line over the match's results. Sugata Sanshiro co-stars Motokariya Yuika (Fight, Boku no Aruku Michi), Hashimoto Satoshi, Kaname Jun (Tantei Gakuen Q, Udon), and Nakagoshi Noriko (Yoshitsune, Pride).

明治の東京を舞台に、柔道の道を邁進する若き柔道家の活躍と恋を描く。黒澤明監督のデビュー作であり日本映画史に残る名作映画のリメイク版である。原作は富田常雄の同名小説。主演は人気アイドルグループ、NEWSの加藤成亮。共演に中越典子、要潤、かたせ梨乃、中村梅雀など豪華な顔ぶれが揃う。この撮影の為に猛特訓を積み、ワイヤーアクションなどで体当たりの演技を見せる加藤の奮闘振りも見ものの、熱血青春アクションである。
