TV writer/novelist Yamada Akane brings her own novel
Subete wa Umi ni Naru to the silver screen with her feature film debut
All to the Sea, a quietly intimate story about two wounded souls connected by their love of books. Known for oozing sexual appeal in the lead role of films like
Cutie Honey and
Funuke: Show Some Love, You Losers, actress/model/writer Sato Eriko takes on a relatively quiet role as a bookstore clerk with a dark past. The film also co-stars Cannes Film Festival Best Actor winner Yagira Yuya (
Nobody Knows) as a teenager who falls in love with the bookstore clerk. With an attention to detail about contemporary literature,
All to the Sea is an intelligent romance with an offbeat twist.
Natsuki (Sato Eriko) has been in relationships before, but she's still convinced that she doesn't understand love. She's trapped in a dead-end relationship with an arrogant book salesman (Kaname Jun), and she nearly loses her job one day after falsely accusing a woman of shoplifting. Through this incident, she meets the woman's teenage son Koji (Yagira Yuya), a bullied outcast trying to keep his family together. Natsuki only relates to Koji at first, but their friendship eventually becomes something more as they share their common love of literature with each other.
