After the sensational success of the big-screen adaptation of The Da Vinci Code in 2006, another Dan Brown bestseller Angels & Demons has also made the transition to the cinema. Similar to Code, this movie was made amidst controversies for its themes of clashes between religion and science, and reports that the story incurred the wrath of the Catholic Church. Regardless, the Angels & Demons movie grossed over US$450 million at the box office worldwide, and the critical response was in general much better than its predecessor.

Academy Award-winning director Ron Howard teams up again with superstar Tom Hanks and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman for the sequel (or prequel, as the original novel predates Code). Hanks reprises his role of symbologist Robert Langdon, who is summoned by the Vatican to help make sense of the cryptic clues left by the Illuminati when the notorious secret society has set in motion an apocalyptic conspiracy just before the Church's election of a new Pope. Together with Italian scientist Dr. Vittoria Vetra (Israeli actress Ayelet Zurer) and Camerlengo Patrick McKenna (stylish Scottish actor Ewan McGregor), Langdon must race against time to find out where the Illuminati has hidden the ticking time bomb made with stolen antimatter before it explodes and destroys the entire Vatican City!
