YesAsia Editorial Description

To pursue new career opportunities, Justin Lo decided that he should move his base to Beijing. Bidding an emotional farewell to the Hong Kong music scene, the singer-songwriter entertained his fans one last time at the Hong Kong Coliseum with two concerts in late January 2011. A number of top musicians and interesting artists participated in the concerts, including producer Mark Lui, guitarist Joey Tang, Justin's musician uncle Ted Lo, and guest performers C AllStar and Wan Kwong. The concert rundown comprised a variety of music genres and styles, including some re-arranged versions of Justin's most popular songs. Hats off to Justin
It was one of the darkest days for Canto-pop in recent memory when Justin Lo announced in December 2010 that he had decided to leave Hong Kong for Beijing, citing tabloid defamation and financial deficiency as the main reasons behind his decision.

The singer-songwriter-producer exploded onto the scene in 2005 under uber starmaker Paco Wong, and has since churned out hit record after hit record, but the harsh business environment of the industry and malicious gossip surrounding his private life conspired to push this talented musician and performer away.

Before his departure, Justin played two concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum on January 27-28, 2011, and these were essentially his swansong to the city where he has made his name. He seized the opportunity to answer the people who criticized his "cookie-cutter" pop hits, so this concert would no doubt be his tour de force showing the world what he's capable of.

Taking audiences Around The World in a concert designed to showcase his impressive range, Justin brought to his set a rich variety of music styles and influences he wanted to share with his fans. The moment a flashing hat was lowered onto his head, he sprang into action with a bang, sending the audiences on their feet with a Middle East-flavored Volar.

He didn't mind sharing the spotlight with his musicians. The pop star comfortably performed a rock version of "Haven't Lost Yet" with rocker trio Pal Sinn, Joey Tang, and RubberBand guitarist Clem. It was followed by a hip-hop rendition of B.O.K featuring MastaMic and DJ Tommy, and then a rap medley with iconic veteran singer Wan Kwong.

Right after that he and the dancers were clad in Tron-like LED suits for a loud and proud rave party, giving his ballads Kong and "Good Guy" an intriguing techno vibe. Don't care for disco? Maybe the C AllStar duet on Dai Hung, a cappella style, is more your thing. This editor especially liked the Motown tribute for which Justin donned an Afro to do the Jackson Five number I Want You Back, and his hilarious impersonation of MJ.

The best bits of the concert were those touchy-feely moments where the star came across as a guy with genuine emotions, like when he revealed his love life through a jazz session backed by a jazz trio including his uncle, Ted Lo. Justin was clearly moved by the passionate and supportive audience, and leaving Hong Kong must have been a tough decision for him, evident in his tearful conversation with producer Mark Lui midway through the concert.

During the encore, the usually hat-wearing entertainer came back on stage with his shiny dome unveiled, a gesture suggesting that he's finally freed himself from old hassles, or that they didn't matter to him anymore. For those who have enjoyed Justin's music over the years, here's hoping him the best of luck on his new adventures.
