Slow and Confusing
| I thought this movie moved sooooooo slow, I was like when is this going to get to the good stuff!? But it was relatively alright, it took me a while to asses what was going on but I picked it up. Oh and the Dvd was horrible, all those typo subtitles, bad. Overall the movie was ok, definately not all the hype. |

Slow and Confusing

people do not respect good film making...
| Do not pay attention to the reviews that the people above have writen.this movie is really good.Of Course it is good since it is a takashi miike movie..if yuo you knew who he was you would know what to expect..this movie is visually amazing(i didn't expect anything less)The way this movie is written it really feels like(as allways)the director is toying with you...check out this movie if you want to see a great film..If you didnt enjoy it afterwards then you should contine watching your movies.there is a differnce between films and movies! |

horrible...and not in a good way

If you like torture buy it!
| To summarize this movie: Disturbing and Confusing. Half of the movie consists of the main character hallucinating about events.. and the climax is an extremely disturbing torture sequence... do not recommend! |

Good film, poor DVD

Typical of director Takashi Miike (Dead or Alive, Visitor Q), this film is violent, sick and twisted. (It's easily an NC-17 release!) It's most certainly not for the squeamish. However, what sets this apart from other Miike works is how it quietly enters the room, and for the first 50 minutes or so is perfectly content to be a gentle little drama, almost Ozu-like in pacing and absolutely beautifully shot. And then after that, when things start getting nasty (and intriguing), the pacing and the beautiful cinematography never change -- Miike never goes for the cheap "shock edit" like so many horror directors resort to. However, this DVD is very poorly compressed, and uses a very washed-out print of the film, and typical of HK releases, the English subtitles are downright awful. |
