YesAsia Editorial Description

The beautiful Ueto Aya returns for more blood-spurting ninja violence in Azumi 2: Death or Love, the much-anticipated sequel to director Kitamura Ryuhei's action-packed 2003 original. While Kitamura-san chose to bow out for the 2005 follow-up, the directorial reins have been passed on to the capable hands of one Kaneko Shuzuke, a veteran filmmaker who definitely knows a thing or two about helming sequels - the man has no less than three Gamera movies and one Godzilla film under his belt as a director!

Based on the popular manga by Koyama Yu, Azumi 2: Death or Love picks up where the last film left off, with the title character wandering around Japan with her good friend Nagara (Ishigaki Yuma, from Battle Royale II) in tow. But in her travels, Azumi's life is interrupted by violence once more. This time around, Azumi has found herself caught in the thick of some major internal strife within the Japanese government and is enlisted by a lord to dispose of a rival official, the evil Sanada Masayuki (Hira Mikijiro, from Suzuki Seijun's Pistol Opera). With no other choice left to her, Azumi must unsheathe her sword once more and mete out bloody retribution. But things get complicated when she meets up with a motley band of crooks that just so happen to have a member who bears an uncannily resemblance to Azumi's former best friend, Nachi (a returning Oguri Syun). Is there romance in the cards for Azumi or only death and destruction? Featuring Kuriyama Chiaki (late of Kill Bill and the original Battle Royale) in a supporting role, Azumi 2: Death or Love amounts to a highly entertaining, fight-filled popcorn flick that is sure to lure viewers both old and new!

Well, its a sequel... Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
I watched Azumi Part 1 without any expectations and it turned out to be fantastic. Although this film belongs to the action genre, it covers a lot on the the emotions and innocence of the Azumi character played by Aya Ueto. I anticipated Azumi Part 2 with much higher expectations and it turned out to be a disappointment. For some reasons, the villains that were killed in Part 1 re-appeared in the sequel. I am not talking about Nachi character (friend of Azumi whom she killed in part 1). It seemed like the movie has run out of budget or couldn't find other actors to play those characters in the sequel so they re-use the actor for different role. Never the less the movie was still enjoyable, Aya Ueto did a very good job in making Azumi character more emotional and her charisma makes me feel compassionate towards her character. Torn between love and duties, at the same time realising how she was being used by her superior. In the end she has nothing.

Wowww Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
I enjoyed it as much as i enjoyed the first part. This sequel is really a continuation of the first part. It did start from the ending of part 1. The fight scenes still very intense.

The secong volume you should also get. It would be nice to do part 3 in the future.

This is horrible Customer Review Rated Bad 0 - 0 out of 10
The first one was fun, but full of plot holes and issues. I love the director of this one, both GMK and Gamera rocked, Azumi 2 however did not. Horrid pacing, plot, costumes, and so on. SO I have no clue how anyone liked this movie, if you are a fan of the first see this one, but be prepared,it is as bad a Star Wars Episode one, if not worse. (buy it if it is less than 5 dollars and you won't feel too ripped off)

wonderful Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
A wonderful movie. Although not seeing plenty of Japanese movies, this belongs to the most wonderful Japanese movie I've seen (of action genre). However, unlike the first sequel, the second seems to be influenced by other Hollywood movie, like ninjas (LOTR -- the black knights on horse?). In the first sequel, only the teacher seems to resemble George Lucas' Star Wars. I've heard that George Lucas' sequels were inspired by Japanese movie, now it seems the idea turns back.....

Azumi's return Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Azumi 1 was touching for me.
Azumi 2 was much more touching!
Azumi 2 emphazises the feelings, contracdictory, love and hate of the charactors. Not just simply "Action".

I couldn't imagine if I were Azumi, how would I choose -- Death or Love!
How could she choose between the one she loves, and her death-mission? Aya Ueto acted very well and pretty.

Moreover, the traditional "Ninja" clothing and scene all so attractive that I hoped to be one of them...
