Loved it, Watch it. Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
In the long list of Asian popcorn movies, those films you can sit back and just enjoy, this ranks right up there.

Granted the fights might not be as technically proficient as some of the HK movies around but everything else about this film is fantastic. A hot chick wading through hordes of evildoers wielding a Samurai sword, what more could you want.

This one surprised me! Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
I typically am not a fan of these CG-enhanced films featuring pretty pop stars as master swordsmen (or swordswomen), but I must make an exception for "Azumi". Once the film gets cranked up, it is one long high-octane adrenaline rush. The film's culminating battle scenes are a wonder to behold; the filmmakers create images and use colors in ways I've not seen before.

Moreover, the film has a good story to tell. Superficially, the story is about a rojin who seeks to end Japan's unceasing civil wars by grooming a team of young killers to assassinate warmongering warlords. However, the film's real story is about how Azumi (Ueto Aya), the most skilled of the young killers, comes to terms with her mission. On this level, the film works wonderfully well.

I was not thrilled with how the film ends; it is nothing more than a bald attempt to set up a sequel. This quibble does not deter me from recommending this film very highly. It is a sword-slashing, blood-spurting, action-packed blast!

Potential that fizzles out Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
Have the Japanese version of this. It views like your manga-action movie with typical characters but I will always prefer an old school samurai (chambara) movie over this modern-ish "ninja" display. After the initial gut wrenching 'kill your childhood friend' test occurs, the audience suffers a loss of attachment with the characters regardless of the attempts in story & interpersonal complications the movie tries to throw at you.

Very violent but Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Reaaaal goood. Wow, this is the first female samurai i have ever seen. I know that this will not happen in reality but the stunts and the fights scenes is really great. worth watching and worth buying.

Pretty Good Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
I bought this movie, because it looked and sounded good. I had my doubts however, I've been disappointed by movies that only looked good before, but I was not regretful upon watching Azumi. The story line is a little simple, which isn't a bad thing, because the storytelling is good. The sequence of events moves at a pace that doesn't lose interest. The highlights of the movie is definitely the action and sword fighting. The drawback about many Korean DVDs is that the special features are never subtitled in English, which defeats one of the purposes of buying a DVD. However the price on Azumi now is much cheaper then before. So, for anyone that enjoys ancient Asian fighting movies, this is a film worth seeing.
