In the early 60s, two boys - Ignacio and Enrique - discovered love, movies and fear in a Christian school. The school principal - Father Manolo - was passionate for young Ignacio and decided to separate him from Enrique. Ignacio scarified himself to save Enrique but he failed.

어린 시절 이나시오와 엔리케는 신학교의 억압적인 분위기가 답답할 때면 함께 영화관으로 달려가 해방감을 맛보며 내밀한 우정을 쌓아가고 있었다. 하지만 이들의 '특별한' 관계는 문학 교사였던 마놀로 신부에게 발각되고, 이나시오를 남몰래 사랑하고 있었던 신부는 질투심에 엔리케를 쫓아내려 한다. 두려움에 떨던 이나시오는 엔리케를 퇴학시키지 않는다면 신부가 원하는 건 뭐든 하겠다고 간청한다. 이나시오는 약속을 지켰지만, 결국 신부는 엔리케와 이나시오를 갈라 놓고 말았었다.
엔리케는 이나시오의 시나리오를 읽어본 후 실화와 허구가 뒤섞인 이야기에 매료돼 영화화를 결심한다. 그런데 이나시오 역할을 자신이 맡겠다고 고집하는 앙겔. 엔리케는 앙겔이 이나시오 역에 어울리지 않는다며 앙겔의 부탁을 거절하고, 화가 난 앙겔은 엔리케와 심하게 다툰 후 떠나 버린다. 앙겔이 놓고 간 라이터를 단서로 이나시오의 고향집을 찾아간 엔리케. 그는 이나시오의 어머니로부터 상상도 하지 못했던 충격적인 사실을 전해 듣는데…
