Baek Ji Young's sixth album, "The Sixth Miracle", may mislead some listeners with the way it is organized. The album starts out with an instrumental piece, followed by seven straight ballads, another instrumental piece, then five straight dance songs. (Miss Baek employed almost the opposite strategy with her "Smile Again" album, front-loading it with mostly dance songs, then closing it with a long string of ballads.) Whatever the reason for this peculiar approach, the seven ballads and five dance songs feature enough variety in rhythms, styles, and arrangements that they never sound repetitive. Indeed, each of the five dance tracks is done in a distinctly different style. Throughout Miss Baek's golden voice, a silky smooth instrument, seduces with its warmth. Track 12 is my favorite song on this album and one of my favorite Baek Ji Young songs ever. It sounds like an old cabaret number and it fits Miss Baek to a T. Great stuff! While I could do without the jarring hip-hop elements on track 10, otherwise this album is a delight. I recommend it very highly. |

I read reviews online saying there were a lot of ballads on this CD, and I'm not too big on ballads, but I thought I'd take a risk and buy it, seeing as Baek Ji Young has never failed me in the past. This CD is good and bad, depending on your taste. This has a lot of slower songs, which is great for newer fans. For older fans that love her upbeat tracks and Latin-style songs, you won't find too many of those (no Latin-style songs were on this CD), which is disappointing. If you like ballad-type songs, you should definitely check out this CD. For more upbeat songs, you might want to stay away. |

I've always had an interest in Baek Ji Young's works, right from the beginning. I've stuck with her as a fan all the way from her debut back in 1999. I don't know if it was really the vocal, the grand performances, her appeal, or whatever -- I've just always been interested in her as an artist. "The Sixth Miracle" pretty much solidifies the point-of-no-return for her with the Koreana-Latina music which made her a household name in the late 90s, early 00s. This album is comprised entirely of sad ballads, adult contemporary, and some R&B songs. No Latin-flavored songs whatsoever. Slightly disappointed, but not disheartened, she's truly matured into her own, proving to be a strong balladeer. The first 7 tracks is strictly romantic, low-tempo tracks, while the latter 7 is a mixture of mature, mid-tempo AC & R&B songs. Seasoned KPop listeners may still be looking for someone to fill that void that BJY had sorely left, and no newcomer has been able to fulfill. Faranee (2002), Oliver (2003), and a few others have attempted to forge a stronghold in BJY's old-skool Latin style but were quite unsuccessful. We will have to continue on with the wait as this album will provide none of that. Nonetheless, this is a solid album, and a solid effort from Ji-young, recommended for those who like to diversify their collections, but not for after-era, hardcore fans who'd expect her to retain some of her old genre. |

I never really got into baek ji young except for her single off of vol 5 that was a huge hit. I love the division that she has made with this CD. To be honest I never heard of her until vol 5 but this cd (vol 6) will put her up there in the ranks with ivy and chae yeon for dance hits and lee soo young with ballads. Again the cd division is perfect and really shows her diversity. Her dance beats are awesome and her voice is husky yet amazing. I love how she has a little bit of everthing all on one CD.....this is a must buy for any kpop fan, without a doubt. My olny complaint is possibly her first single of this cd sounding like her hit from vol 5 but hell...still sounds great. I think that she really put a lot of work into the CD and it sure shows. One of the best CDs of the year hands down. Good job bjy...u made a new fan for sure. |
