R. U. O. K ? ! (Japan Version)
December 23, 2005 Aikawa is on FIRER.U.O.K.?! is the new "ROCK" CD from Nanase Aikawa. In contrast to the Ballad heavy "The First Quarter," this CD is VERY VERY rock. It starts out with the very chaotic, frustrated sounding "Foolish 555." Nanase sounds like a wet cat crossed with Mick Jagger. The second track is much more "accessable," in a rock vein, and is pretty much in line with songs on her last "rock" release "7 Seven."
The third offering on this disc is VERY reminicent of "Purana" style songs and is called "Fly to Rainbow Ray." One aspect of this CD that many old school Nanase fans will notice is that the guitar solos are much more modern than they have been in the past. This would be the more frequent contributions and influence of Marty Friedman of Megadeth fame. The chorus of this song is classic because it features Nanase singing "Fly to Rainbow Ray" with a Japanese twist, so it sounds like "Fie to Lainboo Lay."
Song four is the least memorable to me. It isn't bad; it just doesn't stand out. The beginning has some of the same "chaos" as in "Foolish 555." Next is "Red Wheel" which follows in the same style as "7 Seven" power-ballads. The song reminds me of late 80's alternative rock.
"Snowfall" is another power-ballad. Lots of guitar in this song. I love guitar!!
What I love most about this CD is that it starts with a bang and goes out with a bang. The last song is heavy and driving. Her voice is in good shape for this song, and it has some neat melodic twists that put it on my best of Nanase list.
Over all a great release and I am excited to listen to it more. Nanase is back to rocking out where she should be. I can appreciate her diversity, but she is a rocker plain and simple and does her best work backed up by screaming guitars.
