Barefooted Youth (Vol.1-16) (End) (Taiwan Version)

YesAsia Editorial Description

Starring superstar Bae Yong Joon (The Legend) and the beautiful Ko So Young (Memories), The Barefooted Youth is a 1997 remake of the same-titled 60s film classic that made indelible icons of its original cast Shin Sung Il and Um Yang Lan. The story revolves around a modern-day Romeo and Juliet romance in which Bae stars as a gangster hero who defies class lines by falling madly in love with the city's renowned prosecutor's daughter (Ko). Directed by one of the pioneers of early Korean cinema, Kim Ki Duk of 1967 monster flick Yonggary fame (not to be confused with Breath and Dream director Kim Ki Duk), the drama offers a delightful trip down memory lane to witness young Bae Yong Joon's tough-but-tender charisma. Both romantic and lacerating in its portrayal of youth, this powerful, breathless melodrama stands as one of Korean television's most beloved love stories.

Natural born fighter Yo Seok (Bae Yong Joon) is constantly under the radar of a gangster organization looking to recruit the youngblood. But instead of falling into temptation, Yo Seok leaves his hometown to pursue his dream of becoming a policeman. While studying night and day for his college entrance exam in the big city of Seoul, Yo Seok rescues a girl named Hye Joon (Ko) who turns out to be the daughter of the city's public prosecutor. The two gradually fall in love with each other but tragedy strikes when Yo Seok finds out about his triad family background. Suddenly the same fate that brought them together, now threatens to tear them apart.

the best of BYJ drama Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This drama was produced by KBS in 1998 and BYJ was 26.
There was no out-of-date feeling while I was watching this drama in March 2005. BYJ looked so cool in black leather jacket, jeans jacket and without his glasses.
You could see him fighting and kicking using his long legs and also practising in kendo.I almost stopped breathing when he appeared in his police uniform. He
looked so awfully smart and handsome. It was not just a usual love story. I can understand why people say it's Romeo & Juliet - the Korean version -
wonderful story, wonderful acting and excellent BYJ.
