Acclaimed director Chu Yuan was credited for bringing mystery thriller ingredients into his atmospheric martial arts epics, and this is one of the most impressive examples. The title refers to the feared nickname of a notorious rapist-murderer who swoops down to destroy one swordsman’s fiance and frame another. Or does he? The two tragic men team with a beautiful swordswoman to find the truth – only to discover incredible traps, ambushes, duplicity, avarice, and betrayal between them and the mystery’s final solution.

This movie has wings!

"Bat Without Wings" is an entertaining, colorful, action-filled, over-the-top comic book of a film. It features a bad guy who resembles Gene Simmons of Kiss, hidden treasure, moving bamboo trees, poisons galore, endless swordfights, cackling madmen, and a twisted plot you need a roadmap to navigate -- unless, like me, you choose not to worry too much about the plot and just go along for the great silly funride of this movie. Derek Yee, Jing Li, and their castmates seemed to have a blast playing in this confection ... and you will have a blast watching it. I recommend "Bat Without Wings"! |

Best Chu Yuan movie Ive seen so far
| I cannot reccomend this film enough. I've bought practically all the Chu Yuan directed films that have been released so far & this one has impressed me the most. The story is as convoluted as every, with twists, backstabbing, intrigue, mystery, poisonings, restraunts full of dead people.. you know, all the things that make these films great. Added to that, the martial arts action is excellent - this is normally something that slightly lets down Chu Yuan movies compared to those by, say, the venoms, but this time its excellent. Excellent storylines, excellent swordfighting, jaw-droppingly beautiful & atmospheric sets. |
