YesAsia Editorial Description

One of the most shocking and controversial films in recent Japanese cinema. A high school class has been chosen to be in a "Battle Royale," a fatal game, because of their disrespect, sloth and violence.

They are taken to an isolated island that has nothing but brutality, irrationality, killing and death. Starring Takeshi Kitano as the ominous class master, who conducts the entire game and adding spice to every scene! This game of life and death is normalized and ridiculed by media broadcasting (as part of a show), helpless parents and the "funny game" instruction video. There is a lot of violence in the film, however theatrically displayed. The film extracts the problems of modern Japanese society, of adults and of children. Another challenge and reason for Takeshi Kitano!

JAW DROPPING Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I would give this more than 5 stars if it were possible.
most amazing film u will ever see in the history of asian cinema...something the americans would never ever consider showing...unless its a remake which is what is looking likely with this movie.

this will leave u absolutely speechless but glued to ur seat throughout.
at first glance it just seems like a gory sick cult thriller movie which it is in a way. but another aspect of the film is that its contents actually have a meaning behind it, it's thought-provoking and captivating, making u think what would u do in that given situation.

it takes an issue that is actually occuring in modern day society - younger generation of kids caring less about education and turning to crime, and truenting from school, which is what makes this film particularly powerful

i would recommend this to anyone who wants to see something different from all the other typical films coming out of hollywood

Great storyline Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
When I first decided to watch Battle Royale, it was because I heard there was a lot of blood and gore in this movie. But after seeing it, I realize it's much more than just that. There's good character development and humor in the way the teacher acts like this whole competition is perfectly normal. Would you kill your classmates to live?

A must-see. Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This movie is a must-see for everyone. Yes, it is somewhat of a blood-fest because of the killing, but it's more than that. It has a solid storyline, no questions asked. You really get to see the lives of these teens and through what goes on in the battlefield. Alliances are made and friends are betrayed. This movie will make you go through many highs and lows. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Bloody brilliant Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
It is a battle between children and adults. It is a battle between friends, classmates and loved ones. It is a battle for survival. The students are commanded to kill each other in order to survive...and like the cliche in Immortal...there can only be one. If faced with this kind of dilemma, what would you do? Over and above the gore and the brutality, this movie is as real as your everyday routine...would you kill to survive?
