Be Free / Namidazora (Japan Version)

Formed by four anonymous Sendai medical students, new J-pop group GReeeeN went major in a big way in 2007. The quartet managed to release four singles and a full-length album last year, winning over fans enmasse with their soothing rock and rap ballads. Their third single Aiuta ("Love Song") became the first ever full-track mobile download to sell one million copies. The group didn't do too shabby in physical sales either. Aiuta went to the #2 spot on the Oricon charts and ended the year with over 220,000 units sold, while their debut album A Domo Hajimemashite sold around half a million, making it one of the top 20 albums of 2007.

GReeeeN's first release of 2008 is the double A-side single BE FREE/Namidazora. Pulsing, catchy, mid-tempo rock number BE FREE is the theme song to the indie film Negative Happy Chain Saw Edge starring Ichihara Hayato and Seki Megumi. Ballad Namidazora, meanwhile, may well emerge as 2008's graduation ceremony theme song of choice.
