The title says it all...

This is ROCK. Hard, heavy and dark. Juria has a great and wonderful voice, but it's pretty much drowned out by the music. There is a LOT of English on this CD...I'd say half and half. Even one whole song is entirely in English. The funny thing is her ennunciation and loud music keeps you from knowing if she's singing in Japanese or English unless you read the lyrics! I certainly would not recommend this for the light listener. But if you like a great voice and seriously heavy grinding rock with melancholy and dire lyrics (nearly all the songs have a "death or judgement" theme) then this is for you. I, personally, find the CD too much noise and too rock for my taste. But, the voice is solid and if she did something a bit lighter I think she'd shine better. Plus, to be honest, the lyrics are rather depressing. And there is way too much English...she switches back and forth between languages so fast it's almost frenzied. But, again...some people like that style and she does have a phenomenal voice. It's all a matter of musical taste...because vocally, she'd appeal to anyone. The music is another story. |
