Beautiful
YesAsia Editorial Description
Perhaps one of the most talented musicians of the Chinese music scene, David Tao, often referred to as the godfather of Chinese R&B, is back with his all-new full-length album. The idealist, romanticist and perfectionist, who sings, writes and composes a lot of his material, in many cases also single-handedly takes care of the background chorus and the arrangement as well as the pre-production of the master record of all his releases.
As far as his 5th album, Beautiful, is concerned, Tao expressed in a message posted in his on-line diary that its content is comparatively emotional and compassionate. Whereas his previous works were more concerned with actual accounts, his new works leave more room for creative and romantic lyrics. One of the ideas Tao wants to put across this time is the desire to treasure one's precious memories in a world where everyone is busy competing with time. David's principal track Can't get You Outta My Mind also carries this message that promises to cheer up all of his devoted fans.

Yeah!! He did it !! This album is definitely a MASTERPIECE from David Tao. All of the songs are high-musicality yet easy listening and relaxing. After hearing the whole album, I realize that he has his own style of melodies. Track 2 is astonishing. I’ve never thought that he’ll make it that way but astonishing too, I’m quickly bored with this song. But the ending is really interesting ^^ Track 3 has very melodious verse and bridge but the refrain has too many words ‘tai mei li’ with the same note. It’s boring but fortunately because of the whole song’s beauty I’ve never skipped this track. The medium beat songs as in track 4 and track 6 are really worth listening. Yet somehow the refrain of track 4 reminds me to one of eVonne song (I forget the song’s title). I’d highly recommend Track 8. It’s SUPERB!! Even though the lyric is a little bit sad but the music and the way he sings it makes me enjoy this song very much ^^ I’m always in sunny mood after I hear it. The slow songs especially track 9 and track 11 make me flow with the songs. They really are nice songs. I like the intro of track 10. It’s kind of bringing me back to summer days. Track 12 is cool!! It’s a hard-to-sing song but he is able to make it. He sings it so emotionally that leave deep impression to the listeners. I don’t think that David has a great or the best vocal technique but I do think that he has great sense of music. The improvisation he does is not just made to make the songs not boring. The improvisation is the soul of the songs. It’s not made up. The way he sings is impressive. He doesn’t need to follow singing rules. He just sings as he likes. That’s the biggest point that causes this album so BEAUTIFUL. |

indifferent
| This album generally is completely pop. There seems to be a lack of variety in musical styles unlike his previous albums, which including rock. Most of the ballads on this album lack the passion of other songs like ai wo hai shi ta. It wont leave you tearing your hair, but it wont leave u impressed either. Looking forward to his next album. |

i have to say..i'm amazed by david tao's songs to be honest..i never really hear a lot of his songs..i know he had some great hits a few years back..but never really took the intention to listen to his album i finally took the chance to listen to his album..i noticed some of his long time listeners didn't find this album too great..but to me..i loved it it mostly consists of slow ballads..not like this last one..which was a bit more dark and very rock-ish anywhos..most of the songs in this album really got to me track 2 - classic remake..it's a lot of hip hop + r&b into this..very different from the original song..it's a new feel..his voice is well delievered here..i enjoy it very much..the original slow melody blends well w/the new mix track 3 - love the violin intro..then bringing in the pianos..giving a very beautiful feeling..this song has a typical canto pop melody..so it's very memorable and catchy..especially the chorus track 4 - gives me a low into the blues feeling in the beginning..the speeds up..this song has a bit of spain music genre..well..from it gives me this feeling..i also like the chorus..he added background vocals..btu it's not too strong..so u can sitll hear his original vocals.. track 5 - another typical slow ballad..again..the chorus really got to me..very very catchy track 6 - funny/cute intro..like the piano..it gives a happy song feeling..again..catchy song "just walk on..just walk on"..and he challenges his vocals here..lots of vocal range track 10 - love this duet..well done..jolin+david's voices blend very well together..jolin's voice has matured from her other songs too..so new signs of improvement..the lyrics of this song is very sweet too..very suitable to the title..i like this song the best track 11 - another typical slow ballad..nice melody..nice musical arrangements track 12 - this would be one of the best slow ballads he gives in this album..again with a wonderful piano intro..and this song..he really gives his all..lots of vocal ranges..very powerful and emotional track 13 - gives me a 'thinking about the past' feeling..a nice way to end of the album..quite relaxing..again with a catchy choruss for the first time listening to david tao's album i'm quite impressed on the music he makes even though this album does consist of mostly slow ballads..there's not much too changes throughout..but i'm sure this was the theme he was trying to put through looking forward to his next release..let's hope we all dun have to wait a long time for it |

How far has Mr. Tao fallen
| David's debut and the following two albums were his best works. Ultrasound was a nice intro to fans who had not bought his CDs before, but it was hardly essential. Then he put out The Great Leap, a totally serious but flawed effort. He's mad, you see, he's mad at the media, he's mad at the world that didn't get him, he's mad that ... whatever. I didn't get it, it was a bore and I thought for sure he would rebound from that mess. It would be great if Beautiful was David Tao's big come back record, but it really wasn't. I caught the sample he borrowed for Tension (yes, it was a sample from a P Diddy production, which I'm sure he also took from someone else) and used it here again, and the song he wrote for Karen Mok (another falling performer - geez what happened to her?), You're So Beautiful, yep, David Tao took that back too and put it in a different dress, bang, now it's his Beautiful. That's ok. Just not very original. This CD is not awful, just not very inspiring, exciting, or fresh. The duet with him and Jolin works fine up 'til they start the verse "DT / Jolin is in the house." It's so sad. You almost feel like he's used up all his tricks in the bag and was just cruising thru hoping no one caught him. His voice is still amazing, but all the "uh huh" and the tired, cliche lyrics were just no longer amusing. Sorry folks, this isn't a Beautiful effort. Bland, maybe. We'll have to wait 'til his next record to see if he actually has more juice and can share better materials. |

I totally agree with David. Although this CD's message doesn't stand out radically as much as the previous 2, doesn't mean that the message is not strong and unified. I really feel this CD has a great representation of David's music, and his purpose. To spread love. I love this CD and how well David sings. It's like he takes love and life and puts it in a simple manner... |
