Ding Hao goes to school

In "Beauty Parade", supercute Ding Hao plays a farmer's daughter sent to the city to attend a good high school. Her parents' hopes are high for her to achieve academic success and gain a better future. However, upon arrival at the school, Ding Hao finds that she is shunned by most of the other girls who view her as a backwards country hick. The other schoolgirls continually trick Ding Hao into participating in school sporting events, assuming that the cute country girl will fare badly and be humiliated. Much to their surprise, Ding Hao turns out to be the school's best athlete. Her success in sports leads to her winning the friendship of the girls who originally rejected her. Unfortunately, there is a downside to her sporting success. Ding Hao concentrates too much on sports and neglects her studies. At the end of the semester, she returns home sheepishly holding a report card that shows failing grades. Unless she improves her grades, she will be expelled from school. Fortunately, her best friend's brother is a university student who is willing to tutor her (and is hopelessly in love with her). Will Ding Hao gain academic success or will she flunk out of school? Will she fall for her lovesick tutor? Watch "Beauty Parade" to find out. The movie follows a predictable, paint-by-numbers path, but serves as an effective vehicle for the charms of the girlish Ding Hao. Fans of Ding Hao definitely will want to see this early effort that helped to make her a star. |
