One of the Best!
One of the Best!

Although I am not Chinese and do not understand the language pretty well, I was so impressed by this serial that I finished watching it in just two days and a box of Kleenex just before the last episode ended!! Oh My! I dare say it has been one of the best Chinese modern dramas I had ever watched and I am pretty glad that I ordered it :) The main theme of the serial is based on the love story of Song Yi Kun (Wei Zi) and Xia Ying Jie (Xu Qing): how she madly loves him, how shes being ignored by him, how she restlessly tries to direct his attention towards herself (even by committing suicide) and how he finally falls in love with her too and how they become true lovers, like two spirits in one body; so passionate and so romantic ^^ But life has its dark side too and theirs is no exception. Song Yi Kun is a pretty clever and intelligent guy whos unfortunately involved in a case which has Mafia on its other side. Hes supposed to do something in their favor (and against his country maybe) but he betrays them and so he has to pay the price
. My main reason for ordering this DVD was because of its leading male actor Wei Zi (whom I had become a fan of after watching his fabulous portrayal of the hypocrite Yue Buqun in a martial arts series named Xiao Ao Jiang Ho or Blood Cold and Proud Hot which is another favorite of mine too). I wished to know how he would act in a modern story and how he would look like without those ancient costumes and make up (especially that the leading lady of this serial was no other than the cute and lovely Xu Qing, the vicious but kind hearted Ren Yingying of the already mentioned XAJH (though she is somehow horny in this series but when your man is Wei Zi, its quite excusable!!)! They did a great job indeed, so perfect and believable that I had really forgotten it was just a movie I had been watching! I especially love that shower scene where Wei Zi and Xu Qing are holding and kissing each other so passionately that you might think theyre really lovers in their real life! This serial is filmed in France and China but the interesting thing is that nobody speaks French! The only languages heard are Chinese and English (and I am so glad that they were speaking in English for at least I could understand what they were talking about this way!). Another interesting fact is that everybodys speaking in his own language and everybody does understand the other side! The serial is great, the acting is superb, the DVD quality is quite fine, the DVD packaging and design is pretty good but I have one complain! I have watched this series so many times that I know each and every scene of it by heart but there are certain scenes which are available in both the opening and ending titles while are nowhere to be found during the series itself! I have also seen them as B&W photos of the series in different sites but still cannot find them in the series and have no idea what has happened to them, were they cut off or what! But after all, it is really a great TV series, worth both your time and money; quite recommendable :) |
