Curiosity Kills The Cat (DVD) (China Version)

September 29, 2007 Better than expectedI enjoyed this film from the very first shot of Momo's clogged pores. This may be a common unhappiness in the modern world but the visuals are terrific and unapologetically Chinese. There are many details in this movie that I liked such as Sharon's eating style and body language when she is feeling damaged, her raggedy ambitious hair and the abundance of her physical affection for her married lover.
I felt that the difference in the haves and have nots was done precisely and sufficiently despite the lack of a third person voice in the story telling.Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -

September 29, 2007 NOT WORTH ITMy first two attempts at watching this movie resulted in my falling asleep. Finally, I made a point of watching it from beginning to end managing to do so with the sound turned off and just reading the subtitles. I found problems with the casting and the acting and the directing. Most obvious to me was that the actors were acting with gestures and grimaces instead of conveying profundity from within. I felt that these gestures trivialized the characterization and the story. Also the story tries to be deep and poignant about the human condition but even if the background on Mohism and events weren't edited out, the story still lacks punch because it is too self regarding. It's obvious that cast and crew suffered in some Chinese location but failed to capture the flavor of being in China. Everyone's clothes are too neat and too modern in the carriage of wearing them. Andy Lau flicks a scarf over his shoulder as if it were something he purchased in Milan. Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -
Spacked Out (US Versio)
September 26, 2007 Riveting and hopefulSomehow HK kids left to their own device survive. I like this movie a lot. It is more enjoyable as an all girl ensemble than Fruit Chan's debut and Thailand's Sisters. Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -

(5)Our Price: US$10.99Usually ships within 7 - 14 daysSeptember 26, 2007 Spacked Out's directorI watched Spacked Out first and the quality of that film motivated me to watch this one immediately afterwards. I expected more behind the scenes gossip about the HK industry but this was a VERY nice movie. I don't understand the ending however. Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -

September 26, 2007 wasted my time and $9.99Omigod. I was so bored. I kind of guessed there was some morbid bloody craziness afoot but so what. WHY did they make this stupid movie? Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -

(2)Our Price: US$10.99Usually ships within 7 daysRelated promotions:September 26, 2007 $15.49 is pricey but satisfyinI didn't like the production quality of the interviews but the movie itself is fine and I enjoyed thinking about this movie as Ann Hui's message. Siqin Gaowa and Chow Yun Fat is in the movie much more than I expected. It's a movie about quietly struggling to live in the rushing waters of Shanghai because Manchuria is freezing and grey. Just terrible!
The director intentionally dressed Zhao Wei alternatively in aspiring to be trendy rags with buttons missing and traditional Chinese pieces of perfect cut worn as if the latter were rags. How interesting.

(1)Our Price: US$12.49Usually ships within 7 daysSeptember 26, 2007 LOLOut of all the movies I ordered from yesasia, this was the first one I popped into the dvd. It wasn't as anthropologically informative as I expected and hoped but Athena Chu Yun and Candice Yu were charmingly snarky and the movie is very alive. I especially liked the monologue by Happy of Dongbei at the hotel swimming pool. This movie is obviously from a stage play and I found the music intrusive. Did you find this review helpful? Wonder Women (2007) (DVD) (US Version)
September 26, 2007 $14.99 for a time capsuleThis is a very informative and intelligently told story of Hongkong. Gigi has a screechy voice which I think says a lot about Hongkong women who despite their grooming don't really care what you think of them. I especially liked the recap of the major news events in Hongkong. I strongly recommend this movie. Choose this before Cinema Man but get both especially if like Hong Kong. (2)Our Price: US$10.99Usually ships within 1 to 2 daysSeptember 26, 2007 $14.99 for a true photo albumThere really are people such as Mr. Cinema. I have had them on both sides of my family. If only they had listened to Deng Xiao Ping when he told everyone it was okay to get rich. These good people would give the shirt off their backs and wrongly sacrificed their children's opportunities to help fellow Chinese because they were traumatized by the war and the subsequent exile so they funneled their damage into helping others. This movie is easy to watch so don't avoid it if you are afraid of being depressed. It might make you feel better that someone else understands and knows how it goes. Eye In The Sky (DVD) (US Version)
September 26, 2007 $14.99 well spentI wasn't especially fond of Simon Yam's character though I can understand that he is supposed to be the lovable mentor we all wish we had. Tony Leung Ka Fai is very creepy and dangerous as the target for surveilalnce. It is more about dogged police work than high tech ominpotence. Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -
Exiled (Hong Kong Version)
September 26, 2007 $16.99 is a lot of moneyI have no regrets buying this movie. I wouldn't say it is a better movie than The Mission (aka Gunfire) but it is definitely more polished, more beautifully shot and more mature. I buy pretty much anything that has Johnny To's name on it even if he is producing and so far I have not been disappointed. This movie offers a great deal to think about in terms of debt, obligation and what we are worth as human beings. And it offers a glimpse of pretty old Macau. Did you find this review helpful? (5)Our Price: US$14.99List: US$35.99Save: US$21.00 (58%)Usually ships within 7 - 14 daysSeptember 26, 2007 $16.99 is a lot of moneyThis movie is expensive but cheaper than buying the dvds for My Name Is Kim Sam Soon. I'm glad I own it. It's a well done thoughtful movie unlike the pastel hued fairy tales starring other Korean actresses. I love Kim Sun Ah's face. It's so soothing. I don't believe that this movie is actually autobiographical however. How can someone so tall and pretty hook up with so many weirdos and losers? Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This)
