Directed by Inudo Isshin (Kiiroi Namida, Touch), Bizan tells a universal story of familial love and emotional healing with lots of local flavor. Based on Sada Masashi's best-selling novel, Bizan is set in Tokushima, located in southern Japan, and the film draws heavily from its environment to create a unique narrative and visually striking cinematic experience. Other than a trip to the titular Mt. Bizan, the film also captures Tokushima's famous Awa Odori festival, a colorful dance festival held annually in August. Underlined by a remarkable score and beautiful photography, Bizan builds on subtle emotions and encounters to highlight the fragile mother-daughter relationship of the leads, effectively portrayed by Matsushima Nanako (Ring) and veteran actress Miyamoto Nobuko. The film also co-stars Osawa Takao (Crying Out Love, In the Center of the World) and Nagashima Toshiyuki.

When Kono Sakiko (Matsushima Nanako) learns that her mother (Miyamoto Nobuko) is sick, she returns to Tokushima to pay her a visit. Sakiko is shocked to hear from doctor Terasawa Daisuke (Osawa Takao) that her strong-spirited mother has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Perhaps even more surprising though is her mother's revelation that Sakiko's father, whom she had long believed dead, is in fact alive. Sakiko sets out in search for her father in hopes of bringing him to her mother, and the journey becomes one of revelation and reconciliation as she learns more about her parents and herself.

Sakiko (Matsushima Nanako), works independently at a travel agent in Tokyo. She was raised by her mother, Tatsuko (Miyamoto Nobuko), is hospitalized, Sakiko returns to her hometown Tokushima.

She is told by doctor, Terasawa Daisuke (Osawa Takao), that her mother has terminal cancer. Although Sakiko does not feel comfortable to be with Tatsuko, she nurse her mother in the hospital everyday. Encouraged by Terasawa, Sakiko found out a secret concealed by her dying mother for many years....
