YesAsia Editorial Description

Enjoy one of the most spectacular epics of the bestseller novelist Jin Yong!

The beloved story that revolves around a mysterious martial arts secret was already adapted as a TV series in the 80's with top star Chow Yun Fat. Now you can re-experience all the non-stop action, romance and excitement in its magnificent Chinese version that was directed by Huang Jian Zhong! The series stars popular Mainland actor Li Yapeng, husband of singer Faye Wong, as a swordsman who longs for spiritual as much as physical freedom.

Not so sure... Customer Review Rated Bad 0 - 0 out of 10
If you havn't seen the original series, do no watch this...it's been cut so many times that it was just confusing and there wasn't any point to it (the mistake I made). If you have seen the series and loved it then go for it.

Blood Cold and Proud Hot Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
This 100 minute video is a shortened version of the 40 episode, 2000 minute, TV series "Laughing On The Wind." For those who have enjoyed the TV series, this may not be for you. The DVD loses a lot of the richness and depth of the charactors, especially the main characters, Ling and Ying, as well as some of the original story with its breath taking scenery and music. However, I would not consider this just another martial arts video and the Director did a magnificant job in staying pretty much true to the original story and maintain some of the most creative and action packed sword fighting scenes. There is so much going on, one may find it difficult to keep up. And this is not your standard good versus bad. As answered by the Shoalin Master to Ling's puzzlement, there is a fine line between good and bad and right and wrong. The final scene, hopefully provides the answer. The DVD is worth the money.

The casting director did a magnificant job. All the actors are believable in their roles, especially the main characters, Ling (Li Ya Peng)and Ying (Xue Qing). This made me a fan of Li Ya Peng and I could not see anyone else but Xue Qing in the role of the Holy Lady. Perfect.

Magnificent ^_^ Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
A great series indeed though I should warn you that its first 10 episodes are somehow slow pacing but after that you'll have great moments of breath-taking fighting scenes and the final episode is indeed a climax.
My favorite actor in this one is Wei Zi (though the rest are great too) playing the part of hypocrite Yue Buqun. He acted so great that I believed him as a gentleman not a hypocrite so it was really a great surprise and shock to me when his true face finally revealed.
The music and the songs are great too and I -as a non Chinese girl- quite enjoyed them (though I didn't understand a word of it since my native language is Persian!!). I do recommend it, it's really worth your money ^_^

Very VERY GOOD Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I'm surprised that there's no review written for this drama because its definitly an extremely good drama. It takes place in history and many things about the drama was confusing at first for me because they had different rules and regulations for each different "clan" but as i kept watching, i understood more and was really amused at how well the fighting was. I looked like these people really were flying in air and such. Also, the storyline is just beautiful because it has love, hate, regret, frustration and so many more feelings in it. Its definitely sad at places, due to the fact that some and there were many times when something happened totally unexpectedly, but i LOVED it.. u should buy this and watch it..GREAT fighting scenes

GREAT! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I watched this quite a while ago, and while I usually forget movies/series I watch pretty quickly, this stuck on me. All the actors/actresses are perfectly cast - even Jin Yong himself told the girl who played Ren Ying Ying she was the "Ren Ying Ying I always thought she would be". Li Ya Peng and Ren Ying Ying (whoever played her) had a very well-crafted on-screen chemistry that draws the watcher's attention. At the end, some men are forced to play women's roles, and they all play them very well. The fighting sequences are exquisite - very realistic and intriguing!
