Before The Romancing Star and God of Gamblers, the trend-setting Hong Kong director Wong Jing made Born to Gamble combining both the skirt-chasing and gambling themes that would later catch on in those Wong Jing blockbusters of the late 80s.
The film stars comedy regulars Nat Chan, Stanley Fung Shui Fan, and Wong Jing himself. Lolanto (Nat Chan) is determined to quit gambling when he learns that the girl of his dreams (Joyce Godenzi) hates gamblers. He is put in a dilemma when the girl's father (veteran actor-director Chor Yuen), who happens to be the retired King Gambler, pledges to marry his daughter to Lolanto if he can beat him on the mahjong table...
