The year is 1778, a group of soldiers is escorting Diogo through Mato Groso. On their journey they encounter a group of swimming Guaicuru women. The soldiers lead by Pedro savagely attack them. Eventually the company makes it to Fort Coimbra, where the Commander reprimands them for their actions. Diogo soon realizes that his education isn't sufficient to withstand the harsh reality of the colony. He is falling in love valiant attempt to keep the peace, but he is undermined at every turn by Pedro's violent outbursts. Meanwhile, the Guaicurus devise an ingenious reliatory plan, which they conduct with razor's harp precision.
