ロサンジェルスの実家を離れ、ニューヨークで暮らすキティ・ウォーカー（キャリスタ・フロックハート）は、保守的なトークで人気のラジオのパーソナリティ。母との確執があり、しばらく実家から足が遠のいていたのだが、才能を買われてロサンジェルスのテレビ局から新番組のメインパーソナリティとしてオファーが。面接のためロサンジェルスへ向かうキティは、３年ぶりに実家に帰ることに・・・。ウォーカー家は、食品会社を経営する父親と愛情溢れる母親、父の会社で働く長女サラと長男トミー、弁護士のケヴィンに末っ子のジャスティンと、次女キティを含めて５人兄弟姉妹の７人家族だ。久し振りに戻ってくるキティのために、ウォーカー家には家族全員が集まっていた。しかし、家族が久しぶりにそろった幸せな団欒の後、誰もが満ち足りた時間を過ごしていたその時、家族の大黒柱である父親が突然意識を失い、庭のプールに転落してしまう・・・。あまりに突然の父親の死をきっかけに、次々に浮き上がってくる、驚くべき事実の数々・・・。そんな中、父親の遺言書が公開される。それは遺された家族の絆が試される波乱の幕開けだった・・・。
