本片導演梅爾．池安格魯師承菲律賓名導演連奴．布洛加(Lino Brocka)。跟他的前作《夜舞男》一樣，本片也結合了布氏擅長的社會派通俗劇(編劇是與布氏長期合作的里卡度．李)與軟性情色電影風格。故事極盡煽情之能事，有兩代的父子情仇、多角(同性、異性)戀、黑社會、血腥廝殺，可謂火喉十足。最有趣的是因為最近菲律賓開放電檢制度，可以允酗k性裸露上身，影響所及，本片一於兼容並蓄，既有連場的男色熱舞(比《夜舞男》有過之而無不及)，也有艷女亂竄，一味夠camp。
Mel Chionglo who brought us the underground hit Midnight Dancers, is at it again with a brand new feature Burlesk King. This is a sizzling tale of sex, violence, jealousy, love and revenge. Harry, a young American-Filipino, comes to Manila to look for his father but ended up working as a macho dancer in a gay bar. Soon, Harry finds love with a teenage hooker, Brenda and they got married. However, Harry harbours a hatred within, he wants to learn enough about life to be able to avenge his mother is death by killing his father who also used to pimp him. But when he finally meets his father, a decrepit old man dying of Aids, he makes a surprising and empowering decision.
