Peter Ho and Dong Jie play famed star-crossed lovers Liang Shan Bo and Zhu Ying Tai in the hit costume drama Butterfly Lovers. Based on the classic Chinese folk tale, this gender-bending romance follows the love between a rich merchant's daughter, who disguises as a man to attend school, and her earnest commoner classmate, who takes some time to figure out his best friend is actually a girl. Though their hearts are true, their class difference makes it impossible for them to be together in this life. Butterfly Lovers has long been a popular story for adaptation, with stars like Nicky Wu and Charlie Yeung, Show Luo and Noel Leung, and Wu Chun and Charlene Choi playing Liang Shan Bo and Zhu Ying Tai in different small and big screen incarnations. Peter Ho and Dong Jie bring their own charm and chemistry to this 2007 television adaptation of the classical love story.

梁山伯出身平民，家道中落，幼時父親因治水身亡，由母親撫養成人。他性格耿直，憨厚篤誠，一心繼承父志，經世濟人。在去杭州尼山書院的路上遇到女扮男裝的祝英台，兩人意氣相投，結為異姓金蘭。在書院三載，又與英台“日同桌，晚同床”，相互照應，情深義厚。
尼山書院是享譽江南的士族子弟求學入仕的好地方。杭州太守之子馬文才，太原王氏子弟王藍田等也來到了這裡。馬文才風流倜儻，學識一流，加上一身出色的騎射功夫，在書院中雄冠群英。他仗著時任太守的父親和自己的各種優越條件，在學友中聚集一班紈褲子弟，屢與梁山伯、祝英台作對。當山伯品狀排名超過他時，競對山伯痛下殺手；當窺探到英台為女且已愛上梁山伯時，他耍盡陰謀，誓欲奪到英台為妻。
