MBC presents CSI: Joseon. Touted as the Joseon period version of CSI, the short series Byul Soon Geom (a.k.a. Chosun Police) was first aired in 2005 on MBC, but ended its run quickly. The series later resurfaced in 2007 (as Korean Traditional Scientific Investigators) on MBC Dramanet due to high audience demand, followed by a second season in 2008. Starring Chung Yoo Suk, Choi Gyu Hwan, and Jo An, the investigative thriller follows the same successful formula as CSI, focusing on unlocking crime mysteries through meticulous scientific analysis and spellbinding the audience with the nitty-gritty details of the investigative process. The series, however, clearly differentiates itself from its American archetype with an ancient historical setting, plus a sprinkle of humanism and occasional comic relief.

In 1894, Korea was experiencing a sudden influx of western culture and heavy political turmoil, leading the Joseon dynasty to undergo various social and political reformations. During this time, a new type of police force - the father of Korea's modern police structure - was founded. Healthy men between the ages of 20 and 25 showing good moral conduct were chosen through a rigorous review process to form a police task force. An undercover special task force called Byul Soon Geom was established to operate in secrecy. Whilst the central police task force took care of general civil matters, Byul Soon Geom focused on one task: criminal investigation. This is their story.

　　一部以動盪不安的朝鮮時代為背景，講述巡檢破解各種案件的探案劇，是在2005年MBC播放的同名電視劇的延續版。在古代的朝鮮《別巡檢》是類似於現代便衣警察的一個職務，主要擔任案件的情報搜集和處理工作。

　　大韓帝國-甲午改革以後1894年(高宗31)7月左右捕盜廳被廢止。接著創建了現代員警組織的前身—警務聽，在品行端正身體健康的20-25歲青年當中，以考試選拔了執行皇宮宿衛和員警任務的”巡檢” ，在這些人當中，不穿制服執行祕密偵探的特別搜查組叫做—別巡檢。巡檢只負責一般員警任務，而”別巡檢”是負責刑事和搜查人物。

總巡——姜承祖（柳承龍 飾）
警務廳所屬的特別搜查局別巡檢總指揮官。有著堅毅的信念和筆直的心性，氣概和意志與眾不同，具有敏銳的觀察能力和冷靜的分析能力，平時表情比較嚴肅，不愛多說話。

茶母——如真（朴孝珠 飾）
出身武將家庭，其父在15年前被冤枉流放，她則被貶為官婢。美麗且聰明，心細如髮，承祖看出她的才能，把她推薦為別巡檢。

巡檢——金強于（溫周莞 飾）
熱血青年，拳頭先於想法的年輕巡檢。出身富裕的商人家庭，得到了家人的疼愛，非常聰明，身體和精神都非常的健康。曾被其父安排去清國留學過幾年。回國後，成為別巡檢的一員。一直都深深的喜歡著如真。

巡檢——裴福根（安內尚 飾）
瘦瘦的個子，很樂觀，有點膽小，愛開玩笑，對三教九流都有點法子，很受人歡迎。還為了查案去幫人幹活。和如真很熟稔。

巡檢（道具分析）——吳德（金武烈 飾）
別巡檢的資料室和實驗室的年輕小夥子，主要職責是分析案件證物，比如腳印或車輪等。對自己的業務和分析結果通常都很有自信。

巡檢（化學分析）——綾琴（河在淑 飾）
別巡檢的資料室和實驗室的官婢，是宮裏逐出的宮女，有點胖，有時有點可愛，和吳德一起負責證物的分析。以現在的概念來分的話，她算是化學方面的，吳德算是物理方面的。對藥草很有研究。

檢案——劉治金（李一雄 飾）
別巡檢的驗屍官，像鄰居爺爺一樣的外表，為了安慰死去的屍體，還跟他們超渡和聊天，是別巡檢的精神支柱。
