A Shining Star
A Shining Star

Byul (a.k.a. Kim Go Eun) has delivered a superb fourth album. I understand that Byul means "Star". There is a saying: "It ain't bragging if you can back it up." And Byul definitely can back up her stage name; with her big, beautiful voice she truly is a star. Byul has a lustrously rich, warm, slightly husky voice that shines in the middle register, but also has surprising range, strength, and suppleness. She proves her vocal chops by smoothly handling some difficult chord changes in these songs. Frankly, she sounds remarkably mature for a young woman who still is a few days away from her 24th birthday (as of the date of this writing). The songs on "Her Story" are a ballad heavy collection, but the album's few mid- and uptempo tracks are equally strong. Byul can break your heart in a beautiful ballad in one track, then cheer you up with a bubbly dance number. The songs here are well-crafted, the playing is solid, and the production is state of the art. (I have only one minor quibble with this album; the hip hop elements of the second track are an annoying distraction from Byul's fine singing.) I was intrigued by the closing number on this album, which has the feel of a classic pop standard. This may point the way to future growth for this splendid rising star. Yes, Byul is a star and I recommend this fourth album very highly. |

i loved her 2nd album, the 3rd one is really good too! i cant wait to have this! i love her since i heard her song in the drama full house she sings amazing! this is a must buy for ballads lovers ^_____^ |
