℃-ute(큐트)는 헬로 프로젝트 키즈 멤버 15명 중 'Berryz工房(베리즈 코보)'의 멤버(당시는 8명, 지금은 7명)을 제외한 7명에 의해 2005년 6월 11일 결성되었다. 결성 후 이듬해 1월 2일 '아리하라 칸나'가 가입하면서 잠시 8명이 되었으나, 같은 해 10월 31일부로 오리지널 멤버이자 인 무라카미(村上愛)가 졸업하면서 현재의 7인 구성으로 활동중이다.

2005년 6월 11일 Berryz工房를 제외한 헬로 프로젝트 키즈 소속 멤버가 아베 나츠미(安倍なつみ)의 솔로 콘서트에 게스트로 출연하였는데, 이때 헬로 프로젝트의 프로듀서격인 츤쿠(つんく♂)가 ℃-ute라는 유닛명으로 명명하면서 대외적으로 유닛 결성이 공식화되었다. ℃-ute라는 유닛명은, '멤버들의 열정의 온도를 표현하고 싶다'는 의도로 'C'대신 온도 단위인 '℃'기호를 차용하여 썼다고 한다
