All's well that end's well

Nothing heavy, simply a fine selection of stars getting into various entertaining scrapes in a Singapore hotel. You'll probably enjoy the film most if you are a fan of the principal players - Kent Cheng & Charles Chin, Richard Ng, Eric Tsang and Jacky Cheung & Joey Wang - but the humour is obvious enough that it can be appreciated even if that is not the case; the four stories comprising 'Carry on Hotel' are quite varied, so no need to fear boredom through repetition; the last two stories are the strongest, with Eric Tsang's darkly humourous piece - he is a womanizer who finds himself in the clutches of the convincingly crazy and beautiful Cherie Chung and Pat Ha - perhaps the strongest, though the Joey Wang/Jacky Cheung/Cecilia Yip romantic tale that closes the film is also very effective in its portrayal of Jacky's infatuation with Joey - not difficult to understand - much to the consternation of tom-boy Cecilia (who manages to look good in dungarees and trainers). All in all, a pleasant way to pass 90 mintes. Finally, an aside - Kent Cheng's catch phrase in the opening story is 'Fu-k me' on the Cantonese sound-track; if you want to avoid this, listen in Mandarin. |
