Daniel Craig (Munich) steps seamlessly into the shoes of 007 in the latest addition to the celebrated Bond franchise. Directed by Martin Campbell (The Mask of Zorro), the film updates the Bond world for a contemporary setting and a darker story, while staying true to the franchise's tradition of hard-hitting action, exotic locales, beautiful women, and thrilling storylines. After much debate about his casting, Craig has more than held his own as the latest Bond, with Casino Royale winning big both at the box office and with critics.
The film opens with James Bond (Daniel Craig) traveling to Madagascar to hunt down a bombmaker, but things go awry. The botched mission, however, leads him to banker-cum-terrorist Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelson), who makes his fortune through high-stakes gambling and selectively blowing up companies. After foiling Le Chiffre's plans to blow up an airport, Bond faces off with his nemesis at Casino Royale in Montenegro for some very high-stakes poker. Bond wins the poker tournament, but the dangerous game is only starting to warm up, beginning with the kidnapping of Bond's contact, beautiful Treasury representative Vesper Lynd (Eva Green, The Dreamers).
