April 20, 2006 Complete from start to finishAny time a band does a "greatest hits" or "best of" CD, there's a good chance of a few noteworthy songs getting left out. Not here. Pop-rock fans rejoice, for ZONE has put together the ultimate compliation for you here! Consisting of every single the band has put out, even their first independent single "Believe in Love", this disc will immediately become one of your favorites. It's got pure rock and roll in songs like "GOOD DAYS", "Akashi", and "Egao Biyori". It's got ballads like "Secret Base", "Hitoshizuku", and "Shiroi Hana". And it's got songs that are fun for anyone to listen to, like "HANABI" and "Sotsugyou". Simply said, these girls know how to make some nice, infectious tunes. If you're looking for some flat out good Japanese pop-rock, then is the the perfect album for you. And best wishes to the girls in all their future endeavors! Did you find this review helpful? sympathy (ALBUM+DVD)(Limited Edition)(Japan Version)
April 20, 2006 No 'sympathy' needed to listenHitomi Takahashi came out of nowhere in 2005 with her smash debut single "Bokutachi no Yukue", which went all the way to number 1 on the Oricon charts. Not many artists can lay claim to having accomplished that feat. Hitomi followed that up with the slower ballad-like "evergreen", which didn't do nearly as well but is perhaps just as strong a song. Her third single, the punky "Aozora no NAMIDA", was a nice return to form for the youngster. Those three singles are included in this, Hitomi's debut album 'sympathy'. The album seems to focus on poppy radio-friendly rock, and I guess that's okay for a first album. But some of the songs could be a bit too poppy for some of the more hardcore rock fans out there. All in all, it's a fun album to listen to if you just want something new from a different artist. Hitomi shows a good deal of promise with her voice, and hopefully she'll come around with an even better album to follow this up. Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -
I am... (Japan Version)
April 20, 2006 She is... the queenThis is Ayumi's fourth full-length album, and it blows the socks off of anything she did before. Trust me, from beginning to end, 'I Am...' is an epic adventure that will have you begging for more of the same. The album opens up with the very emotional title track, which has a very earthy feel. "Connected" is a well-crafted trance track (though I'm not a big fan of trance), followed by another great one, "UNITE!" More rock-oriented sounds are apparent in tracks like "evolution", "NEVER EVER", "still alone", and the hidden track "flower garden". Of course, there are a number of beautiful ballads as well, like "a song is born", a remixed version of "Endless sorrow", and the fan favorite "M". This album is so great, each song has the potential to become your favorite song. I would easily consider this Ayumi's best album to date. Also, if you have a few extra bucks, I'd suggest purchasing the A Clips Vol. 2 DVD, which contains most of the PVs she released in conjunction with the singles on 'I Am..." April 20, 2006 Trying to understand (miss)understoodHere we have Ayumi Hamasaki's eighth original album, (miss)understood. Upon listening to the first track, I almost thought I was listening to Britney Spears or Beyonce instead. Indeed, the first track, "Bold & Delicious", is a bit too Britney-esque and unoriginal for my tastes. Songs like "is this LOVE?", "alterna", and "fairyland" are certainly worthy of a handful of listens, but don't seem to pack the same punch as songs from the "I Am..." era. And songs like "Bold & Delicious" and "Ladies Night" will have you reaching for the fast forward button on your CD player, as they don't stray a bit too far from the usual Ayu formula we've come to expect album after album. It's because of this inconsistency that I can only give (miss)understood an average rating. The DVD looks pretty decent, though, including all the PVs she released for the singles on this album, as well as "making of" clips. I'd say the best thing about this package is the bonus photo album that comes with the CD. Pictures galore! But if you're new to Ayu, I'd suggest either 'My Story' or 'I Am...' instead. VS (SINGLE+DVD)(Japan Version)
April 19, 2006 Amazingly addictiveSo here we have the debut single of misono. My goodness, what an infectious song this is! VS. combines all the elements of a great single (pounding guitars and fast, danceable beats) and delivers one heck of a whallop. The PV is quite interesting as well. It's got sort of a Snow White/video game theme to it. Very nice indeed. misono certainly is an artist to look out for in the future. Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This)
