Zombies have met their match!
| "Chanbara Beauty" features battling beauties tangling with hordes of flesh-eating zombies, who have been released upon the world by a very mad scientist with a serious God complex. Otoguro Eri does her best Clint Eastwood impression as the sword-slinging Aya, unceasingly seeking revenge for the murder of her father by her sister Saki. The film's special effects are pretty darn cool, although it took me a while to become accustomed to their comic-bookish quality. I wish that "Chanbara Beauty" had taken itself a little less seriously; let's face it -- the movie's premise is pretty ridiculous and the movie would have benefitted from a little self-deprecating humor. Nonetheless, the movie's unrelenting pace draws the viewer in and keeps the viewer watching right to the spectacular end. Recommended for fans of films like "Azumi" and "Princess Blade". |
