美しい海辺が広がる港町。交通事故で母親を亡くしたばかりの少年、透は、ある日、海岸で不思議な卵を拾う。やがてその卵から小さなカメが誕生。透はそのカメを“トト”と名付け、父親に内緒で飼い始める。ところがトトは驚くべき速さで成長し、やがて火を噴き、空を飛ぶようになる。「トト、お前、ガメラなのか？」透はトトの正体に疑問を抱く。そんな中、街には凶暴な怪獣ジーダスが出現、 そこに現れたトトは、小さな身体で懸命に立ち向かっていく。

Great Tokusatsu Fun

I finished watching the movie earlier today, and can I just start off by saying that GAMERA THE BRAVE is one of the best monster films that I have seen in a while, along with ULTRAMAN THE NEXT. Kadokawa Daiei has really excelled themselves in the area of SPFX, both suitmotion and CGI. Both Kaiju are portrayed realistically, and could almost be real due to the amazingly lifelike detail put into both monsters. The suits are much more well handled than in a certain 50th anniversary movie. Zedus is such an awesome foe. I think this is the first time I have actually hated a monster. And I don't mean that as in, "I hate Zedus because he is a crap monster." I mean it as in, "I hate Zedus because he was such a git towards Gamera." Seriously, Gamera gets beaten up so badly that you feel sympathy for him and hatred for Zedus. Thankfully, the kids in the movie are not like the Kenny's of the Showa Era. In fact, they are quit likeable, and most of them are very good actors. Surprisingly enough they didn't get on my nerves at all really. If your a kaiju fan at all, you'll enjoy this picture. I certainly did. |
