Close To You (DVD) (Hong Kong Version) DVD Region 3

Two boxers try to overcome real-life obstacles on the boxing ring with Close to You, director Chang Hsiao Tse's very different follow-up to debut film Miao Miao. Eddie Peng (Hear Me) and Ming Dao (The Prince Who Turns Into a Frog) co-star as two boxers who let jealousy get in their way of helping their university boxing club. Their rivalry ends up affecting the women in their lives, played by Amber Kuo (Au Revoir Taipei) and newcomer Yuan Xin Yu. With the help of co-producer Terence Chang (producer on John Woo's films), Chang is able to balance elements of melodrama and sports films to produce an involving youth romantic drama with an attractive, talented young cast.

Due to an arm injury from his youth, Tzu Chieh (Eddie Peng) is unable to score the victory needed to save his university boxing club and please his dying former boxer grandfather. Focused on his goal, Tzu Chieh even ignores the affections of the club manager's daughter Hsiao Kuei, who harbors a secret crush on Tzu Chieh. Meanwhile, Chia Hsiang (Ming Dao) is a talented boxer with amnesia who rescues Shan Shan (Yuan Xin Yu) from hoodlums one night. Through various circumstances, Shan Shan convinces Chai Hsiang to help save the boxing club, but his presence is not so welcomed by Tzu Chieh.
