Led by Yamashita Tomohisa of NEWS, the 2008 Fuji TV medical drama Code Blue about four rookie flight doctors on a helicopter medical rescue team turned into the highest-rated drama of the summer season. The follow-up television special aired in January 2009 did even better, pulling in ratings of 23.1%. With such a foolproof formula under their belt, the cast and crew returned for an equally successful second season of Code Blue in winter 2010. Yamashita, Aragaki Yui, Toda Erika, Higa Manami, and Asari Yosuke scrub up for more personal and professional challenges, this time under the guidance of Shiina Kippei.
Aizawa (Yamashita Tomohisa), Shiraishi (Aragaki Yui), Hiyama (Toda Erika), and Fujikawa (Asari Yosuke) are approaching the final months of their fellowship program, but many hurdles still lie ahead before graduation. The usually clear-headed and focused Aizawa begins to lose his direction, especially when he learns that his father (Lily Franky) is still alive. Shiraishi struggles to forget the past and her role in Dr. Kuroda's departure, and Hiyama commits a grave error that could end her career.
