웅대한 영웅의 대서사시를 그린 <사조영웅전>의 속편 <신조협려>는 ‘정이란 무엇인가?’로 소설의 첫 부분을 열어가듯, 남녀 사이에서 일어나는 애정에 관한 이야기다. 이는 전작 <사조영웅전>과는 또 다른 성격의 것이다. 개인의 이익을 추구하기보다는 친구와 스승을 우선시하며, 늘 나라를 걱정하고 위하는 것이 진정한 영웅의 풍모임을 대협 곽정이 <사조영웅전>에서 몸소 실천을 했다.

그러나 <신조협려>는 일반적인 영웅론과는 조금 거리가 있다. 주인공 양과는 곽정과 달리 영악하기 그지없지만, 그는 늘 사사로운 감정에 쉽게 동요한다. 비록 자신의 개인적 행복과 이익을 우선시하는 인간은 아니지만, 자신을 괴롭혔던 사람에게 반드시 대가를 치르게 하는 것은 강호에서 흔히 얘기하는 ‘협’의 정신에는 위배된 것이다. 또한 곽정처럼 대의를 위해 과감히 사랑도 포기할 수 있는 사람은 더더욱 아니다. 사랑은 곧 양과의 모든 것이다. 그가 온갖 수모와 고초를 겪으면서 대협으로 성장하는 것이 소설의 기둥 줄거리이긴 하지만, <신조협려>는 결국 권모술수가 판을 치는 강호에서 활약했던 ‘영웅’의 일대기가 아닌, 자신의 사랑을 어떻게든 지키고 싶었던 한 남자의 용광로 같은 애정의 서사시다.

<사조영웅전>에서 등장했던 수많은 등장인물들이 얽히고 설킨 가운데 <신조협려>는 곽정의 의형제였던 양강의 아들 양과와 고묘에 살고 있는 절정의 미녀 소용녀의 신분을 넘어선 애절한 사랑을 노래한다. 무협소설 평론가 예광이 <신조협려>를 정서(情書)라고 표현한 것은 그만큼 소설이 인간의 ‘정’을 비중있게 다루기 때문이다. 따라서 <신조협려>가 무협소설이기 이전에 애정소설로 일컬어지는 것은 노완동 주백통을 제외하곤 극중 캐릭터 대부분이 ‘정’이란 감정으로 인해 기뻐하고 슬퍼하며 때론 분노하기 때문이다.

또한 소설에서 일어나는 크고 작은 사건들은 모두 남녀간의 애정에서 비롯되고 있다. 오죽하면 사람 죽이기를 파리 죽이듯이 하는 여도사 이막수마저도 과거의 쓰라린 애정관계에 얽힌 사연 많은 인물로 그려지겠는가? <신조협려>는 무협소설로서의 뛰어난 재미와 더불어 세속의 규율을 전혀 의식하지 않는 두 남녀의 자유분방하면서도, 깊고도 애틋한 사랑을 그려냄으로써 삼부작 가운데 백미로 손꼽힌다. 남녀의 만남과 헤어짐을 가볍게 여기는 것을 쿨~ 하다고 생각하는 요즘, 16년간의 이별조차 갈라놓을 수 없었던 <신조협려>는 ‘정이란 무엇인가?’를 생각하는 데 좋은 기회를 마련한다. 단언하건대 <신조협려>는 신필 김용 최고의 무협소설이라고 말을 할 수는 없어도, 존재하는 최고의 연애소설로서 그 적수를 찾기 힘든 작품임엔 틀림없다.

The most beautiful story of real devoted love and how love can inspire ones heart.. the whole story is one you that will leave you touched emotionaly. its the BEST drama i have ever seen! and love this dvd set.. nothing i have watched on the screen can even compare to this. i Rate this a MUST SEE!!!
the best thing to hit the tv-screen. Wish they made more.
Huang Xiao Ming and Crystal Liu are superb! absoloute perfectfection.. BUY THIS AND HOLD IT DEAR like i do.

The story is great, and the visuals were fantastic! It's a keeper! The acting was very credible, and the kung fu sequences were graceful and well executed. Not a dull moment. The protagonists made a great looking couple.

 Crystal Liu Yifei is a beautiful Dragon Girl Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Be careful as other versions of this DVD boxset that are cheaper actually has scenes cut! The more expensive version put out by Tai Seng will have a different cover art that says UNCUT version. This new version has spectacular scenery, costumes, and fight scenes. The character development and dialogue however was better in the 83 version so it's recommended to watch that to understand the backgrounds and full stories of some of the minor characters. The highlight to this movie without a doubt is Liu Yifei. She is absolutely stunning as Dragon Girl. I find myself fast forwarding fight scenes just to see more of her and Yang Guo. All the scenes with them together are extremely dramatic, almost to the point of making you cry. You'll recognize alot of the music from this series from Inuyasha and other soundtracks. The english subs are pretty decent too. The one biggest disappointment will come all the way at the ending as you'll find it ends very abruptly but other than that, definitely worth the purchase to own this version of part 2 of the Condor Heroes Trilogy.

This is a really good series. Love the effects love everything about this series. Love This! the story line was just like the old one and i have watched the old one so many times. There are just some changes but good change is good. This version didn't just copy the old one. It had its own style to the story which i think is really good.

My parents and friends that I am a Wuxia Fanatic. I have read the first book (Legend of the Eagle shooting hero) except for the last chapter which I couldn't find in English anywhere ) : !!! I have also read the second book (Return of the Condor Heroes) once and am currently reading again. I really like the condor hero movie/TV show '06. It's somewhat different then the book bu it's still great. My favorite character is Eastern Heretic Huang Yaoshi but I' too young so I'm content with being little eastern heretic Xaing . I also like the movie because there's no kissing and a lot of fighting. Condor Hero Rocks!!! Next I'm going to read Heaven Directed Sword, Dragon Slaying Saber. Louis Cha is such a great writer. If you liked Condor Hero I suggest that you read Legend of the Eagle Shooting Hero which is all about Huang Rong & Guo Jing and Mu Nianci & Yang Kang. After reading it you'll understand Return of the Condor Heroes better and understand why Huang Rong hated Yang Guo's Father.
