The Nightmare Before Christmas director Henry Selick adapts Coraline, the best-selling novella by Neil Gaiman into another stop-motion animation wonder. Favorably received by moviegoers and critics alike, the 2009 film has garnered heaps of praise, and the general consensus towards it is best summed up by Hollywood.com's comment that it is "a visual stunner that takes animated films to new heights".
With a voicing cast that includes Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, and Keith David, Coraline follows the titular heroine as she discovers a door in her new house that leads to the Other World, an alternative reality in which everything seems better than those in her own world - including her parents. There, she finds the care and attention that her real parents couldn't give her. But this haven soon turns into hell when the little girl is offered to stay in this parallel world forever, and "no" is not an acceptable answer....
