YesAsia Editorial Description

The trials and tribulations of three Hong Kong couples get a thorough examination in the all-star comedy-drama Couples, Couples, Couples. Superstar singer Jacky Cheung stars as John, a commercial photographer who lives with executive Mary (the gorgeous Cherie Chung). The two are happy with their non-married life of cohabitation, but the relationship gets thrown for a loop when they're asked to take care of a friends' baby! While the baby creates a desire in Mary to have a child of her own, John begins to view the child as a long-term nuisance. Eventually, it drives a wedge between the two lovers...to the point where Mary plans to have a child on her own! Meanwhile, Mary's sister Elaine (Elaine Kam) is starting to have problems with her workaholic husband Dick (Melvin Wong). A sophisticated cinematic examination of modern relationships, Couples, Couples, Couples features fine performances from some veteran and award-winning Hong Kong Cinema stars!

Inconsistent rom-com Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
In 1988, Jacky Cheung was riding the ceaseless demands of his red hot music career while being featured in nine (!) movies. Obviously, he was stretched quite thin and, consequently, perhaps can be forgiven his amateurish overacting in the silly, low-budget romantic comedy "Couples, Couples, Couples". Cheung plays commercial photographer John Chen, who is in a long-running live-in relationship with his gorgeous girlfriend Mary (Cherie Chung). Mary is beginning to yearn for marriage and motherhood, a yearning that is compounded when John and Mary are asked to care for a baby. Their friends, Pao Niu (Lowell Lo) and Hsiao Pao (Sally Kwok), are the world's worst parents; they simply let Pao Niu's mother take care of their baby. When Niu's mother must return to China for a couple weeks, they dump their adorable infant on John and Mary.

Mary's sister Daphne (Elaine Kam) is married to high-powered architect Szutu (Melvin Wong), who takes his frequent business trips as opportunities to philander. Szutu returns from one of his trips convinced that his wild ways have resulted in him becoming in infected with AIDS. Szutu's subsequent odd behavior and John's reluctance to commit to his relationship with Mary, lead the sisters Mary and Daphne to leave their mates and move in together. Szutu and John now must win back the love of Mary and Daphne.

Clumsily helmed by first-time director Cheung Ji-Kok, "Couples, Couples, Couples" intermittently entertains, but is saddled with chaotic storytelling, badly dated humor about AIDS and homosexuality, Cheung's constant mugging, and a wildly overcooked performance by Lowell Lo. Amid the dross, Cherie Chung and Elaine Kam grace the picture with a degree of professionalism it sorely needs and Melvin Wong proves to be quite funny.

Not too bad. Some comedy elements in it. Some wierd fashion of the 1980's. Jacky's song from 1988 - "Sky Changes, Earth Changes, Love Never Changes" is the movie's theme song. I like that song pretty much.
