In 2003, Jerome White Jr. went on the weekly NHK amateur singing contest Noto Jiman and won the top prize of the week. That win started a miraculous journey for White, who would become an enka singer under the name of Jero and perform on the yearly variety spectacular Kohaku Uta Gassen, fulfilling the wishes of his late Japanese grandmother. Jero now releases his third cover mini-album of enka classics with Roots of JERO. This time, the soulful singer offers up eight covers of his favorite enka classics, including Misora Hibari's Echigojishi no Uta and Yozakuraoshichi, which Jero performed live with original performer Sakamoto Fuyumi in 2009.
