Weird and Funny...
|
This movie was funny in such a weird way. The way Cha Tae-Hyun expressed his love for Son Ye-Jin in the movie was a bit over exaggerated and funny at the same time. I bought the VCD version of this movie because I'm a BIG Son Ye-Jin fan. I prefer the "The Classic" 10 times more than this one. The acting was good but the storyline could've been written better i think. Overall i think it's good to watch if you don't have anything else on hand. |

Good story, bad presentation
|
The consequence of having starred in a brilliant movie that earned blockbuster status (read: My Sassy Girl) is that your next movies for review are placed under closer scrutiny. One can't help but compare. Such is the fate of Cha Tae-hyeon. So, the movie. Admittedly, it has a good plot and had the makings of a romcom drama that could equal, say, My Sassy Girl. In fact, given the right touches, it could even be more poignant and more funny than My Sassy Girl. Here's the story. Tae-il has one ambition in life - to marry his childhood love, Il-mae (Son Ye-jin). Sadly, that is his ONLY ambition. He doesn't care much for school and is constantly on a war path. Il-mae's dad, who happens to be Tae-il's homeroom teacher, believes that there's more to Tae-il than the latter would admit. So he offers a proposition - Il-mae's hand in marriage if Tae-il would raise his rank from No. 300,000 to No. 3,000. Tae-il impressively rises to the challenge. The dad takes it a bit further - finish law school. Tae-il accomplishes this, at Seoul National University, no less. And while Tae-il is busy making himself the impressive son-in-law, he still finds time to protect Il-mae from her countless admirers, and from himself. D-day comes when Tae-il passes his bar exams and the dad finally allows him to marry Il-mae. Problem is, Il-mae is already engaged to a wealthy womanizer. Heartbroken, Tae-il now has a new mission in life - to win his first love back. A good storyline, but a mediocre presentation. Once again, the people behind the movie made the common mistake of magnifying everything so the movie will be something it's not. I'm talking particularly of the comedy. It's disappointing really, the way Cha Tae-hyeon portrayed his Tae-il role considering the natural ease with which he portrayed Gyun-woo in My Sassy Girl. There was too much shouting, and granted that they utilized the Busan dialect, did he have to sound so...Japanese? A lot of potentially funny scenes were wasted because they weren't presented right. A pity, considering that there were naturally funny clips far and in between. The drama was somewhat butchered due to the confusing story surrounding Il-mae. It felt like the scriptwriter lost track of his own narrative. I ended up being baffled in a scene that calls for sympathy. Again, a pity, considering that this movie had strong drama potential. 6 kimchi dishes out of 10. |

Strange...
|
I found this movie to be very strange. The first half of the movie was compltely ridiculous... not entirely in a bad way, but there was lots of partial nudity and really awkward conversation topics. The comedy was very silly and over-the-top, and the characters relationships were established on the same obscure surface. But then... the last half of the movie gets really deep into the whole melodrama. It phases out of the comedy [relatively] slowly and gets more and more serious (so its not as shocking as the brick wall that Sex is Zero gave). While the two halfs of the movie work well in their own ways, I find is strange to think that they are still the same movie. It's like, the first half was so crazy that the second half needed to make up for it by developing the characters a lot and attempting to tug at our heartstrings. It's really cliche, but not to the point where I couldn't enjoy it to an extent. I felt that all the actors did a great job. Cha Tae-Hyun was a little over dramatic, but that's just his character. Son Yae-Jin was very beautiful in this movie even though her character was a little shallow till the last half. Bottom Line: Ridiculous and touching in a way that makes you wonder why you're feeling anything at all because its so ridiculous. It is an entertaining movie worth seeing once through maybe, but all the lead actors in this movie have made MUCH better films. "Lover's Concerto" comes to mind... |

I have seen a lot of Cha Tae Hyun movie as i am an avid fan but this movie is really very very very hilarious from the beginning to the end. Now that i am reviewing it, i wanted to watch it again. Its a story of a boy turn to teenager to a man who's only love is a girl he grew up with. Taking all the challenges with a promise that at a proper time, he will be able to marry the girl... Although the girl is very sick, the scripter writer made a happy ending, the man not giving up on the girl by studying medicine again to find a cure for the desease. Don't fail to watch this film. |

Crazy First Love

This movie is absolutely a reflection of its title. The plot is over the top and just not believable, even under the premise of a movie. Likewise, the acting appears forced and again, over the top. There are more enjoyable things I'd do instead of watching this movie. |

Not As Good As I Thought It Would Be?
|
I thought this movie was going to be really good. I thought it was going to be really funny and have a great storyline. After watching the moive I thought it was just okay. I have seen many korean romantic/comedy movies and this one was kind of average. This movie has its ups and downs. At times, the movie can be really funny but afterwards can be really boring. The actors in the movie do a great job playing out their characters. But the actors are limited to showing off their full potentional in this movie. People thinking about watching this movie should consider renting this movie. Watching this movie once is good enough. But if your a huge fan than you could buy it and add it to your collection. Have a nice day. :) |

Rent it instead.

I thought this movie was stupid- there was no real plot, the dialogue was unmemorable & unfunny, and the characters weren't likeable and well-developed. I gave this movie 3/10 simply because I think Cha Tae Hyun and Son Ye Jin are both very talented, but this movie doesn't really showcase their talent. Though I said to rent it instead of buy it in my title, it really isn't worth renting either. |

it was funny at the beginning and it gradually turns into a romantic movie. the beginning is not about "breasts" although it showed breasts. It explains why Cha Tae Hyun is destined to love Son Yae Jin from young. Anyway animation is not easy, appreciate the art! and its just cartoon breasts, no big deal. i guess the "private hair" is to narrate Cha Tae Hyun's character as a naughty boy. maybe its stupid, maybe its unnecessary, but it was funny. the 1st twist came when Son Yae Jin wanted to marry someone else and the 2nd twist at the wedding explains why. I guess its touching and i still remember Cha Tae Hyun saying to Son's dad; You will not stop loving your wife just because you know that she is dying. whether Son Yae Jin's character died or not, is subject to our own imagination, and i guess she did not. yes, its definitely heart-warming and I recommended this movie to all my frds. |
