為逃避入獄，李察普頓飾演的罪犯詐癲扮瘋，被送往精神病監房。一次大停電，普頓借機假扮醫生逃走，胡里胡塗，卻將醫院弄得翻天覆地，醫院上上下下也當他是真醫生。這個冒牌醫生竟替病人做身體檢查，還替產婦接生，並勞師動眾弄來直昇機，為的只是空氣調節！
The symptoms: acute tickling of the funny bone and severe belly laughs. The diagnosis? Richard Pryor in Critical Condition. Playing a criminal who fakes insanity to avoid prison, Pryor ends up in the hospital psychiatric ward. That's when the craziness starts as he escapes during a blackout and disguises himself as a doctor. Somehow Pryor brings order to chaos even while performing unorthodox physical examinations, delivering a baby and using a helicopter for air conditioning!
