Memorable Crossroad
|
In her dedication for "crossroad", okui, masami wrote that she hoped everyone could find a song or two in this album to be especially touching or meaningful. With that in mind, "crossroad" has a broad palette of sound and mood that, I think, achieves its goal. I always feel like I'm going on a road trip when I listen to this album. Not only because of the album title, but because of the unique atmosphere of each track and the thoughts and places they remind me of. And like in any road trip, this album has its notable ups and downsby the time it's over, though, I feel like I've gone someplace new and gained something wonderful from my trip. This album is okui, masamis first as executive producer, and as such she writes the lyrics and music for the great majority of the tracks (though arrangement is left to others). Okui has proven herself an impressive lyricist and songwriter in her earlier albums, and with crossroad?she continues to shows her strengths in fun, upbeat tracks like Kimi to Boku ni Dekiru Koto?and HAPPY PLACE?and slower, more melancholic pieces like Iiwake?and stillness.?Other notable tracks include: mission,?which has an attractive Spanish guitar flair; the silly and upbeat Love Rocket ni Natte? peaceful bird? and the ending track, which features a quiet ballad to the moon, Nemurenai Yoru ga Kureta Mono.? Newcomers to the music artist okui, masami will, I think, appreciate this singers maturity, creativity, and well-honed vocal skills, all of which are out in full force on crossroad.?Existing fans of Okui Masami might need some patience to get used to the new sound of this album; crossroad?possesses a somewhat different flavor than the albums before it. Hopefully, however, youll find crossroad?to be a touching and memorable experience. |
