I have a question about VCD

I have been looking for this movie to purchase but am hesitant because of the VCD format. Will I be able to play it on a DVD player that is without region restrictions and, supposedly, can play any DVDs? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks. |

I saw the movie and I like it , but it is not something I want to see over and over again( except the love story of Siu Lung and her boyfriend). Then I got the DVD version and I am surprised the story is so different from the movie but still I felt something is missing. Then I got the boxset . It is real long but , finally , I got the whole story. The thing about the treasure hunt, I have to say, is a little ridiculous .But, the love story of Siu Lung and Siu Foo is what attracts me to watch this show over and over again. It makes me care for them . The movie version is so much about Siu Lung pursuing the martial art that the love is more like a second thought.The other pair of lovers in the movie version are too old and too bland . This version at least shows more of the character of Moo Bai Overall, I recommend getting the whole 34 episodes in this VCD set than the short DVD version. Everyone in the show act great but my favorite have to be Shui Ling and Peter Ho. |

I really really love that story that inspired to the 2000 movie. I was amazed especially to Peter Ho whose played Ban Tianyun and his also roled whose appeared in the TV series.......I love them both!!!!!!!! |

Comparable to the movie

When this series was in production, people were skeptical about how it would compare to the highly successful movie with Chow Yun Fat, however it came out as very enjoyable and reared off most bad reviews. This series has much more developed characters, especially Jiao Lung (Shui Ling). It does have that mystical element that movie was famous for, but that was what made it more real and believable. The kung fu was good but not over the top. The only thing I would bash it for is the somewhat dragging plot in the middle. Like most Taiwan series, it starts out fast, exciting, and little confusing. Once the audience gets what's going on, the story becomes boring, but the end is rushed. The acting was incredible considering relatively new actors, but to give them credit, they did a good job. Their characters were basically created for them. Buy it, watch it, watch it again and again, and you will still love it!!!! |

I bought this series because of Peter Ho. Once again, he hasn't disappointed me a bit. I hope there would be more of his new series coming out soon, both in ancient and modern settings. |
