- What does the white balance setting do to my digital camera?
- Light levels under different conditions can effect the true color of an object, when viewed through a camera. White balance is a system that filters the light source and adjusts the camera to take the best picture in the current light conditions. Basic point-and-shoot digital cameras will automatically correct the white balance. However there are also other balances that you might want to manually adjust to suit the location you are in.
- Daylight balance: Sets balance properly for natural (sun) light
- Flash balance: Sets balance for use with external flash i.e. spot light
- Tungsten balance: Corrects for orange cast in pictures taken under household tungsten lighting without flash
- Fluorescent balance: Corrects for green cast in pictures taken under fluorescent lighting without flash.
- Manual balance: Allows you to set the balance yourself, using a specific white object in the scene. (not all digital camera models contain manual balance)
Please refer to your user manual to find out more on how to set your camera's white balance.
