- What is a HDCD?
- HDCD refers to "High Definition Compatible Digital" which is a patented process for delivering on CD the full richness and detail of the original microphone feed. HDCD recordings enable more dynamic range, a focused 3-D soundstage, extremely natural vocal and musical timbre. A HDCD-encoded CD is encoded with 20 bits of real musical information as compared with other CDs which are encoded with 16 bits so that the sound quality of a HDCD-encoded CD is better. To play HDCD CDs, either HDCD player or HDCD receiver is enough. However, the HDCD receiver must possess a digital output to decode signal if a non-HDCD CD player is to work with a HDCD receiver.
