October 30, 2005 Watch to pass timeThis is a Korean movie that tries to look and feel like a HK movie. Not sure why they did this as it somewhat looses its uniqueness and appeal but thats only my opinion and I know many would disagree. So, is this movie any good? Well its not bad but that doesnt mean its great. The plots ok but relatively simple (lets just say, you dont have to be the brightest chap in the world to think of a storyline like this) and the fight sequences are pretty well choreographed. The acting and music are pretty good as well. So after all this, why am I complaining you might ask? My main little niggling is that there is absolutely nothing new here (offering) and for some reason, it seems like a rip off of some of the older HK movies (plot, fight sequences and more which I cannot reveal without spoiling the movie but if you have seen many movies off this type, there's absolutely no surprises here), revamped with special effects to attract the younger audiences. For those who have seen many HK movies, you would probably watch this and think its a blatant rip off (of HK movies) but for newer audiences (i.e. western or ones not familiar with this genre), youd probably think its some revolutional or modern breakthrough in terms of plot wise and fight sequences. To be fair, there is a little action that youd expect from watching Korean movies mixed in but very little. So in summary, an ok movie to relax your brain and pass time. October 30, 2005 What the???Well... I've finally stumbled upon a fairly bad Korean movie. Should have expected it though as three in a row (probability of watching three good Korean movies in a row) was asking for a bit too much. Dream of a Warrior has got this really weird storyline which is also a little confusing so you have to watch certain sections a few times to try and understand it. The problem here is that it wasnt interesting enough, therefore I really just couldnt be bothered. It started off ok with the chase and action scene but then, it falls into a heap of mess and never seemed to recover. Then there are flash backs (past life thingy), strange dreams and a time machine thingy explanation where Leon Lai goes to save some girl/princess/daughter of the dude who invented that machine by the way, its not the girl on the cover of the DVD (Lee Na Young) either! Why you might ask, I dont know. Come to think about it, I was expecting the movie to be about Lai and Na Young (these 2 were on the cover werent they? The princess was on the back) but she plays a relatively small role in the movie (cant say much without spoiling it). And whenever there is a scene with Lai and the princess, we get this really annoying, corny hero music (really irritating to the point of driving you insane!). Ok enough complaints. On the bright side, its not the worst movie Ive seen (if you wish, check out my other reviews) and there are a few sections that are a little interesting but thats about it. In summary, there is little to recommend here unless youre a Sci-fi fanatic (I think which I am not so only guessing here) or youre interested or analyzing a bad movies as part of an assignment or something along those same lines. Therefore, all I can say is that it takes a little getting use to and not sure if this would appeal to all viewers (some people may think the comedy is rather crude actually). Being a comedy, it does a fairly good job and some segments are extremely funny (classics actually and I dont want to spoil it here because there arent many). Apart from that, much of the other comedy sections are, well ok. Storyline wise, its also ok, the acting is also pretty good and the music suits the film perfectly (trust me, the music at the start sets the tone magnificently for this movie). There are also quite a few special effects in the film I think HK had a kind of obsession with using special effects in movies at that time but it worked out ok and the movie would not have been the same without it. Is it a great movie? Personally, I have to disagree but its not bad and most importantly, different with enough laughs that should please most viewers so give it a try and youll either love it or loath it or just think its ok. Tokyo Raiders
October 22, 2005 Very disappointing. Very, very disappointingIm completely gobsmacked! On the one hand, Im kind of a fan of Tony and Cecilia. On the other, lets just say Im not exactly the greatest fan of Ekin and Kelly. Again, another movie with an all star cast, in this case, a very attractive (apart from Kelly) all star cast but unfortunately the acting is very shallow (apart from Tony) how shallow you might ask? Its pretty bad actually (Ekin? Enough said). The ridiculous and patchy plot didnt help the films cause either (I kind of started to loose interest 10 minutes into the film) and this pretty much summed up the whole film. On the bright side, the fight scenes in some parts were ok and the music pretty good, very good actually, so Ill give credit for that. If youre the type of person who likes these type of hyped up, brainless, put an all star cast to try and save a film from its poor plot and extract as much cash from the public as possible while you're in the process type of film then go ahead and join the queue but my recommendation is to stay far, far away. October 22, 2005 Looked good. Can't say much else about the film th
Oh boy, another dont judge a book by its cover type of film. An all star cast with a DVD cover and preview that looked terrific. Unfortunately, films completely the opposite. On the bright side, it does have its funny moments and tries to construct a relatively decent plot. The acting from most of the characters, well maybe apart from Ekin I dont think he even tried to act the role. It seemed like he was just blurting out the lines is also ok but the film just didnt cut it. Visual effects didnt help either. I kind of expected more action from the ending as well (they did call it The Duel didnt they?) but what we get is a short mish mash, mumbo jumbo choreographed fight sequence with some matrixy rip off visual effects added in. Purchase only if you have a lot of cash lying around and have nothing left to purchase. Even then, that cash might be better spent somewhere else. Did you find this review helpful? (9)Our Price: US$10.99Usually ships within 7 daysOctober 21, 2005 Pretty good movieThis is a very entertaining romantic movie with a great cast and a fairly funny storyline. It has some hilarious moments the blood nose meditation scene, although some may argue is a bit gross, extremely funny nevertheless. I didnt know what I was expecting initially and after a rather slow start, it does build up steadily and becomes thoroughly entertaining. The music is also perfect and contributes to the whole mood and feel of the film. The only major criticism is that it is fairly predictable (but romantic films generally are don't you think?). Overall, a pretty good movie with some great moments and some solid acting. Enjoy!!! Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -
The Legend Of Zu
October 21, 2005 Over use of visual effects ruins movieHigh budget film. Extensive use of technology. All star cast. Mix them all up and what do you get? Well, pretty disappointing movie actually. I purchased an original copy when I was holidaying in Thailand because the summary sounded pretty good and the cover looked fabulous. Unfortunately the movie did not live up to the expectations. It had far too much reliance on visual effects and technology. The storyline was pretty ordinary, some parts ridiculous while others downright confusing. The acting was fairly ordinary as well compared to their other movies and seemed to take a back seat behind the visual effects (did I forget to mention that the over reliance on visual effects killed this movie?). If you dont care about plot and storyline and want to see overdone special effects, then maybe give this movie a try, else there is little to recommend here unfortunately. (3)Our Price: US$13.99Usually ships within 1 to 2 daysOctober 20, 2005 Outstanding and extremely funny movieThis is a superb movie. Perfect cast, absorbing storyline that will keep you glued right to the end and extremely funny ok, its a romantic film but trust me guys, some parts are hilarious (the switching shoes and the march on the train scene are classics!). Theres wit, loads of humour, class and enough romance to keep all the females happy. Admittedly, the girls a little too psychotic but then again it adds to the fun and it is a tad long causing the middle-end section to taper off a bit somewhat (but then again, doesnt most films?) but the clever ending more than makes up for it. I have not seen many Korean movies but all the ones that I have to date are astoundingly good compared to the western movies of similar genre (most Hollywood movies these days are seriously bloated and unoriginal). Again, a terrific and original movie with a splendid cast. Highly recommended and deserving of its awards. Another must buy to add to your collection!!! Did you find this review helpful? Absolutely gorgeous and outstanding cast (Yu-bin especially - whoever selected the cast should be given a gold medal), great story line and fabulous soundtrack (even though I didn't understand a word of the lyrics - sounded good though). The title initially seemed a little too corny for my liking but I gave the first episode a try and was completely hooked from there on! The first few episodes were absolutely hilarious! The only criticism I have is that it does get extremely emotional (Yu-bin must be an expert in the art of "crying" by the end of the series) in the later episodes and Gun Hee's/Chief Cha father/mother scenes are a little too long/tedious and get in the way of the main story line. Overall however, highly recommended and I cant wait to get my hands on other Korean english subtitled series! Whatcha waiting for? BUY NOW!!!
