July 13, 2007 Made me a fan of Se7en again Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
Honestly, I haven't been keeping up with Se7en's latest activities (perhaps due to my disinterest in his acting pursuits), hence my anticipation for this product was considerably weak compared to previous ones. However, this DVD captures much of the magic that converted me into a Se7en fan in the first place. :)

First thing that surprised me was how his voice has improved considerably in that it sounds stronger and more on tune than in his First Se7en Concert DVD. On the whole, it felt like he was trying to fit as many different songs as possible into a 2-hour frame, which can be a good or bad thing I guess. Most of the old songs he performed were either remixed or blended into other songs, so my recommendation to you is to buy the Japanese concert DVD if you're expecting his songs to be performed in their original full-length form.

The main strength of this concert is the focus on his vocal abilities, which I must stress again, are quite impressive in this one. Granted, his costumes in this one are not quite as pretty as the ones from his Japanese concert, but I think it might have been intentional. He's going for a more masculine look in this concert rather than the pretty boy image he sported in Japan. No matter what, he still exhibits the dynamic stage charisma that has managed to capture our hearts every time.

Oh, and did I mention the DVD comes with a generous photo album for you to drool all over to your heart's content?

November 13, 2006 Good fun Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
To be honest, I bought Se7olution not having very high expectations, knowing that this album was produced in less than a year in the midst of Se7en's crazy schedule. Furthermore, with the release of his less-than-impressive 24/se7en, I pretty much knew that putting out another album as catchy as Must Listen would be asking too much. Thus I was pleasantly surprised that my reaction after first listen of Se7olution was "hey, not bad."

First of all, let me clarify that this album is not as heavy on the ballads as YG claimed it to be. There are only 3 or 4 ballads; the rest are either mid-tempo or dance tracks. In fact, I would say that Se7olution has more dance tracks than Just Listen (his first album). His first 2 singles, "La La La" and "I Will Do Well" are *not* representative of the entire album. For the most part, I think this is a good thing because I feel that his voice is more suited for fast songs anyway.

Vocals for Se7olution is mixed bag. I know that YG insisted that this album would show off his vocals, but don't expect anything spectacular. For instance, his voice in "La La La," sounds thin and scratchy, although it is most likely attributable to fatigue because his voice sounds much stronger during some live performances. I know it's common practice for Korean pop artists to add some abrasiveness to high notes, but frankly, I think Se7en would sound better without it. On the other hand, Se7en's falsetto voice in Oh~ Ma Girl is great. He really does the Justin Timberlake falsetto much better than Justin himself. Overall, vocals sound a bit stronger than they did in 24/se7en, and I think it's mainly due to techniques like adding more background vocals, chords, mixing.

The strength of the album is in the song production. Starting with track 6, "Again," the album really begins to pick up the pace, and uncoincidentally, that's when the album becomes addicting. The fast tracks feature creative and daring melodies that are not kpop formula. This, I feel, is what gives Se7olution its own personality and makes it the better album than 24/se7en. On top of that, the songs are just good fun, and there's something seriously wrong with you if you don't feel like grooving to "Get Up and Dance."

Bottom line: Se7olution is everything that 24/Se7en should have been.

October 16, 2006 surprisingly good Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
I've never heard any of her songs before buying this album. Honestly, I bought it mainly because the cover was so attractive, and I really didn't expect much from her in the music department, and after the first listen, I have to admit I nearly fell asleep. But I liked it a lot more on the second listen, and so far it's been playing nonstop in my car. She doesn't have the best voice, but the songs are pleasant to listen to and leave you wanting to listen over and over again. My only complaint is that it's only 10 songs. What is with all these Taiwanese pop singers putting out albums with only 10 songs??

Before I start my rant, let me first suggest that to really enjoy this DVD, you should have an all-region DVD player. Of course, your computer will be able to play it if you change a few settings, but I think it is best to watch this on your big TV set in all its full glory. And don't try burning an all-region DVD off of it either because the DVD is dual layer and burned dual-layer copies always play horribly on your average DVD player. OK, now time to rant:

True, you might just want to buy Se7en's Korean merchandise because his Japanese stuff is so unbelievably expensive, but as an avid collector of Se7en's merchandise, I've found that my favorite Se7en items are all from Japan. They may be more expensive, but the products are of such good quality that at the end of the day, you feel they deserve every bit you've paid.

First off, yesasia made an error in the DVD description: THIS DVD IS WIDESCREEN - ENHANCED FOR 16X9 TELEVISIONS. It is NOT 4:3 aspect ratio like yesasia claims it to be. This, by far, was the most welcome surprise to me because most concert DVDs are recorded in 4:3 aspect ratio but I'm glad that these cameramen are finally getting with the program. My only complaint is that the camera changes angles frequently at some points and often fails to capture some of Se7en's awesome footwork.

Next, it also includes a very nice photobook -- a collection of pictures from his concert. And lastly, a small card with Se7en's picture on it (think pokemon or sailormoon card except it's Se7en).

But yes, the DVD itself is of top quality. Hear this: it runs at a total of 125 minutes!! THAT"S OVER 2 HOURS OF CONCERT FOOTAGE. Se7en looks gorgeous-- he no longer sports the 80's mullet hair (::shudders::), and instead has reverted to his older, more innocent and cute look with slightly longer, wavy hair and bangs. He does not lipsynch at all, and stays on perfect tune I'd say about 85-90% of the time, and remember this is WHILE he's dancing. There are some parts of the concert where he looks extremely tired and sweaty, and you might be thinking "EW" but trust me, nobody looks hotter than Se7en when he's all sweaty. He has plenty of costumes, all of which I love (seriously, some of these costumes are prettier than ones I've seen at Britney's concert). In summary, if you want to dish out ~45 dollars on a concert DVD from Japan, make this one it because Se7en is by far the best live performer of today.

    April 1, 2006 classic se7en Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I'd say that Must Listen is probably his best album (and yes I have all his albums), so if you only want to buy one album by Se7en, make this the one. You'll love all the songs, but there are ones that will go down in kpop history such as 'Passion,' and 'Tattoo.' In addition, there are some lesser known songs on the album that I constantly have on replay like 'Arah (I Know)' and 'My Everything.' After you buy this album and have decided you like his stuff, consider buying his other albums. He really deserves your support with all his hard work. I would rank his albums in order from best ot worst as: Must Listen, First Se7en (japanese), Just Listen, 24/Se7en. (sorry, none of the songs really grab my attention in 24/se7en)

    March 31, 2006 I've heard better Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
For those of you who've only bought 24/7 and not First Se7en, his jap album, you're really missing out. I know First Se7en is expensive, but honestly I think it's a much better album, and hence, worth every penny. There are no songs that stand out in 24/Se7en. True, I don't feel the need to skip through any of the tracks, but after listening through them all, I'm not very impressed. On the other hand, the impression I got after First Se7en was nothing short of 'WOW!' So really, if you want to support Se7en and listen to quality music, buy First Se7en. I find it ironic that 24/Se7en is selling so many copies while his much better work, First Se7en, is being overlooked.

March 31, 2006 Defies expectations Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Seriously, the people who keep raving about how Se7en should just stick to singing in Korean really need to open their eyes and ears. "First Se7en" is MUCH MUCH better than his latest korean album "24/Se7en," and I would say it is on par with "Must Listen" (his second korean CD). True, his image is slightly different in the Japanese market-- the best word I can think of to sum it up is 'refreshing.' The tracks are uplifting, creative in style, and... how should i put this... they give you the feeling that you just came out of the shower, haha. You really get your money's worth with First Se7en, even though it is a pretty hefty price. If you bought 24/7 and even like it at all, I guarantee you'll love First Se7en. This CD really breathes life into a music industry that I feel is getting stale. I got version A which comes with 4 MVs and behind the scenes clips. The MVs, although not his best, are great to watch on my big TV screen nevertheless. I absolutely love that tie he wears in the 'Style' MV. =D I'm really impressed that in addition to singing in Japanese, he took the effort to learn how to converse fluently in the language too. Anyway, it's a great album, and although the price is intimidating, it's definitely worth it.
