一九三九年，二次大戰剛開始，希特拉席捲東歐，捷克成了德軍的佔領區，為繼續與納粹德軍抗爭，不少捷克機師被迫逃亡國外，期望戰勝後重返故士。其中兩位最出色的機師：經驗老到的法蘭特（Franta）和年輕飛行員加勞（Karel），情同父子，戰場上出生入死，惟命運卻讓兩人愛上了同一個女人蘇珊（Susan）。
We flashback to March 1939, just before world peace is irredeemably shattered. Franta congratulates his protege pilot Karel Vojtisek (Krystof Hadek), for passing his flying test. Soon afterwards, Franta and Karel escape Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia and reach England, where they join the RAF. Both men fall in love with the same woman, Susan (Tara Fitzgerald). For Karel, Susan was his first love. The men's friendship is tested to its limit.
